    Exclamation Help!!! BOOTMGR missing

Hi a couple of days ago I bought these parts to build a new PC:

    Motherboard:
Asustek S775 Nvidia 650i ATX GLAN

    CPU:
    Intel Quad Core Q6600 2.4Ghz

    RAM:
    OCZ Technology 2x1GB 240DIMM PC2-6400 DDR2 Platinum

When I first got the parts I put them together with my old 'XFX XXX 7600GT' and installed a legit copy of 'Windows Vista Home Premium' then usually when I restart my computer and the Windows Vista Install disc is not in I get a "BOOTMRG is missing, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart" and I can't get passed that point but when the disc is in it usually has no problems booting up.

Any ideas of how to fix this I have tried the Repair Startup option on the disc and it said it couldn't find a problem.

    Re: Help!!! BOOTMGR missing

My disks are all partions but luckily there is barely anything on my partioned boot drive if the problem persists would it be a good idea to format the whole of my boot drive and not just the partion where the OS is being installed?

    alright mate, a few questions:

    1) are using a dual boot?

    2) are you using just the one drive to boot from? or do you have multiple drives?

    3) have you made sure in bios to boot from the appropriate drive?

    1) No I'm not using a dual boot.

    2) No, my disks are setup like this and the Local Disk is the only Partition with an OS.

    3) Yes it is booting to the write disk.

    Re: Help!!! BOOTMGR missing

Ok, try disconnecting any other drives APART from the drive that the OS is on and see if it loads from there...vista might be getting confused as to which drive to load.

And also are you using a SATA drive or IDE?

    Re: Help!!! BOOTMGR missing

If the BIOS is set to boot from the correct disk, then your MBR is mangled, you could try easybcd, failing that, it's reinstall time, because vista doesn't include a tool for fixing mbr cockups afaik.

    Re: Help!!! BOOTMGR missing

Right so you are absolutely positive that the designation of your SATA drive where the OS is, is set to boot first yes?

There are other ways around this problem (as ive had it before) and they are: using EasyBCD to repair the bootsector OR use the command prompt in the repair utility on the installation disk. I chose the latter as I wasnt aware of using EasyBCD. First though I would recommend that you backup all your important data/files just incase

    1) Boot from your Vista DVD
    2) Guide your way to the 'Repair Startup Option' on the installation disk
    3) Choose command prompt from the list
    4) Type BOOTREC /FIXMBR, and press enter
    5) Type BOOTREC /FIXBOOT, press enter
    6) Lastly type this : Your drive letter where OS is installed:\boot\Bootsect.exe /NT60 All, press enter
    7) PC should restart and boot from your SATA drive

Now these steps worked for me and hopefully they should work for you If not then a fresh install of vista awaits you
