PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP! ... Error Fix ..????!!!!

Hi, I really hope somebody may be able to help! Each time I start my laptop (WinXP) I get the following error:

The application failed to initialize properly (Oxc0000006). Click on OK to terminate the application.
This happens every single time and despite whether I do or do not click OK... my computer is running terribly for much of the time and stalls for very lengthy spells very frequently. PLEASE CAN SOMEBODY HELP RESOLVE THIS??

does it do this in safe mode?

check event viewer, see if anything dodgy is running at startup (msconfig), has this always happened or when a certain piece of software has been installed?

I think you might have a corrupt program loading on start up. Does it say any names to give an indication of what has failed to initialize?

Temporarily disable Startup programs one at a time, starting with firewall, antivirus etc, when you pinpoint the culprit, try re-installing it. to aid you when you find the correct one, one can google the startup process to find which program it belongs to

also run something such as adaware to ensure that you are free of spyware and suchlike.

if you have set the computer to run something from disc on boot, check the disc and try cleaning the cd drive, it may also be a loose drive connection.

A huge thanks for everybody's helpful replies here and thanks for the warm welcome!! I'm still working through some of these suggestions. Does anybody know if it's safe to remove Panel.exe? I've researched it, some sites claim it to be dangerous. But wanted to be sure before doing so (it is a PF file).

i reccomend, if you havent done it already, back up all you important files, like work and photos... just incase...

Id recomend making back ups of all your data regardless if your having problems or not, just to be safe

as CMC and rastaman say, backup your files...

and i take it you have a predator gaming mouse?

it seems that panel.exe allows you to be able to control the programmable buttons on the mouse...
