Re: Acer Aspire 1670 Problem
if you can solder it will cost you £4.75 for a new laptop socket
i suggest calling the shop and calling the guy a robbing bastard for trying to con you.
Acer Aspire 1642 1660 1670 DC Jack power socket PJ14 on eBay, also, Cables Laptop Connectors, Laptop Accessories, Computing (end time 05-Jun-08 17:36:31 BST)
i really hate people that say the boards shagged when its a simple repair like that, i charge £40 to strip, repair and rebuild with a good clean out, if your near nottingham i can help, if not i suggest these guys who will do the repair at a very fair price for a business New Jack range
either way make sure you phone the guy who quoted £200 as i can guarentee he will be paying a fiver for parts and selling you your own motherboard back.
while your at it name and shame the business so other buyers can stay well away.
Re: Acer Aspire 1670 Problem
on my brother in laws old laptop the outer shell of the connector had snapped i just soldered it back together with a bit of copper wire joining the two halfs
lol was even cheaper
thanks for that link though
Re: Acer Aspire 1670 Problem
Of course it could be that the guy in the shop is a total idiot. There's as many of those as there are crooks.
Re: Acer Aspire 1670 Problem
yes you have a point, i walked out a job as laptop repair man due to everyone else being smacktards.
Re: Acer Aspire 1670 Problem
Thanks mate appreciate you help. I will have a go and replace the part myself. Any tips on opening up a laptop so I can get at the motherboard?

I mean this with the utmost of respect, but please - Don't.
If you need advise on how to open a laptop then you almost certainly don't have the skills to repair the socket.
Get someone who knows how to solder to do it. I mean everything - take it apart and resolder it on :)
Tell us your location - chances are there might be someone on here willing to help :)
