The only thing that worries me is the size of the die for this GPU - it's fecking massive - and power/heat is bad as a consequence. I suspect the 'refresh' part in 3 months might well be a better buy. I could still go ATI on this one if the numbers stack up.
I can't see ATI really challenging what you've got already - they might just squeek it but not by a huge margin.
This NV chip reminds me of the 6800GT to be honest. Huge die, but brute powerful.
You may well be right but the clocks/power/heat aren't good for the nVidia part really - and i suspect this will be corrected in the refresh version. Will the nVidia part eat shedloads of power even on the desktop this time?
Can't wait to see 'real' numbers in 'real' games on this one.
I could, unless some major release games-wise changes my mind - stick out for the refresh part and overclock the 8800 for a couple of months.
I've not seen any reliable info about even the clocks yet, so I'll wait and see on that front.
The validity of Wikipedia aside, the stats, as little of them as there is, do look promising. What I want to know though is how much they’ll set us back cost wise. Do you think Nvidia priced the 9800 GX2 knowing full well that they were going to release a brand new range a few months later?
On second thought, that sounds pretty obvious... Rather, I wonder if the GTX 280 will be more expensive than the 9800 GX2? I’ve got big plans to go all out (we’re talking pot noodle till Christmas, if not the new year here…) with a pre-built gaming system and if the GTX 280 turns out to be the real deal I’d really love to know if buying one of them or two 9800 GX2’s would be more cost effective.
I guess mid June is just round the corner, but for me it can’t come soon enough…
Lol my guess a single GTX 280 will be more effective because if you look at 9800 gx2 dual in sli there is little/no improvement.
Some games even run slower!
And from what I heard the GTX 280 is at least $599 in the US.
You better start saving.
Well if this Fudzilla article is anything to go by then it may even be up to €600. So using the cheapest $600 estimate and this max €600 estimate we are looking at a range of £302-471. Thats a pretty wide range but i would imagine it to be near the higher range (with the typical extortionate prices paid here in the UK), especially considering the 9800GX2 is about £350 generally and this is a much faster card than that (and not SLI inside one either). Take a deep breath, take out your wallet... then kill yourself with it.

Oh well at least you will have bragging rights with it...
So what "series" is it, is it a new one or an extension of the 9s? Since that is so new, still.

This is bunny and friends. He is fed up waiting for everyone to help him out, and decided to help himself instead!
In theory it's a new 'series', but it seems more like what the 9800GTX should have been. It looks to be stretching (or fattening) the G92 rather than redesigning it. If it was a true update, you'd have assumed they'd have added DX10.1 support (even if only for the marketing), but it's still DX10.0.
To be fair, the AMD part doesn't seem much different, but the HD3870 was just screaming untapped performance, so HD4870 may well be more of a jump from the HD3870 than the GTX280 is from the 8800GTX.
Still going to be an interesting month ahead. Hexus will be busy!
Wow I didn't think *my* topic was still going
Hi at the moment I'm on a fricken 7600GT so you can guess how I feel I have £263 any ideas what kind of card I'll be able to buy???
Also whats this shizzz about PCI 2.0 : / cause I just bought this motherboard:
dabs.com - Asustek S775 Nvidia 650i ATX GLAN (P5N-E-SLI)
Don't worry PCI-E 2 is backwards compatible.
Chances are, there will be a new CPU socket out before you *have* to have PCI-e 2 and will have upgraded anyway.
I havent seen a good PCI-e board for under £150 anyway unless anyone wants to link me?
