Shuttle Sn45g And 9800se Aiw, No Go!! :(

Just got my shuttle after selling my big chieftec.

Put all my gear in, press power, blue power light comes on for half a second and goes off. At first i thought id blown the PSU, how nice that would have been!!

Tried it again, same thing.

Remove the ati and it works fine, obviously being the sn45g (no onboard video) i cant test to see if its fully working.

Now my question is, is the 200w psu too weak... my magic 8 ball says so

Next question, will the new shuttle 250w PSU work? Has anyone got a 9800se aiw working in a shuttle with the stock 200w?

HELP...

all days ive been telling myself i only ever get problems with my own pc, and true to my words, im having problems with my pc.

i dont know why i do it, my chieftec was solid and stable, yet i decided to be silly, sell it off and go for a new toy. when as always the case, my new toy either requires £20979864309640 gazillion pounds to be spent to get it working or i break it.

the silly thing is, ive just sold a geforce3 on friday which i could have used to test it!

After reading round, im 110% sure its the PSU, but... will the new 250 be powerful enouff.

Can't give you a definite answer - some people around here have been having problems with their Radeon's and SN45G's but I've got an SN45G and just went from a 9700 to a 9800pro and didn't have problems with either.

If you read through the last couple of pages you'll find a couple of threads on the topic.

the problem doesnt appear to be particularly related to all radeon's goof, its more the AIW element thats the problem for most people as they draw a lot more power on boot up than even a 9800XT does and it seems to be tripping the PSU (well thats the theory in some people's minds anyway)

all AIW Cards need more Power them normal ATI Cards...

Get a SilentX 250W PSU and be happy with your AIW

I went through sheer hell with my SN45G and Radeon, neither of them liked eachother, but worked fine on their own. so i sold them, went back to a big boy computer and got myself an nVidia couldnt be happier, dispite what the ATI fanbois say

heheh thats what XTR has to do atm, think he has a 550W one sitting on top of his P4 shuttle atm. Not exactly pretty but does the job temporarily.

I can confirm that installing a Silentx PSU will cure the problem.I had the same troubles with my SN45g and a 9700 Pro......same blue power light flash and then nothing!
Installed the 250 watt psu and the little beauty just rolled over to have its tummy tickled............now works like a dream.
Mind you.......its damn annoying that you have to spend an extra £50-ish to get something to work that should work out of the box........Shuttle must know of the problem with some of their psu's tripping out with some ATi cards.

No, I'm aware of that, I was just referring to the 97/9800's as for some reason I've seen numerous people that have had problems will all combination of 97/98, np and pro, as Joe's just pointed out.

Maybe the quality of the PSU's can vary (?)

I read somewhere that Shuttle Germany offered to disable the curcuit protection in the PSU and send it back......great!..if you want to risk blowing up your rig at some point.
Given that information,it seems that it is the protection curcuit that varies in sensitivity....some trip with a lesser surge than others........so us unlucky people are just more sensitive than the rest of you.
