I just purchased the following speakers:
Ozaki 5.1 Home Theatre Surround Speakers for £69.99 from town this afternoon and have set them up to find they severely lack performance in places like DVD's and with only 25 Watt RMS spreaded accross all channels including sub, they perform poorly, silly me thinking 25 rms subwoofer and then individual amounts per satellite led to this purchase

Then i looked in the new argos catalogue to find Creative Labs 5.1 Inspire P580 5.1 speakers retailing for the same price, some good reviews and 17 watt rms sub and 6 watts per channel satellite. Im wondering if to take these poor speakers back, get a refund and go creative from Argos or even their cheaper Labtec solution for £49.99. What do u guys think?
The only thing stopping me from returning these immediately is the shop i purchased from may not refund cash, and also the thrill of boxing and tieing up all these ones back into their packaging

If I were you Id get the creative ones. I havent heard them, but I expect they're OK from their reviews, and creative have a reputation for being good for PC speakers (im assuming you're running them from a PC with a 5.1 sound card?) You can get them for much cheaper than £69.99, from here for example:

Dont trust 5.1 systems unless you know exactly what ur talking about. Thats my advice, you get what u pay for basically with them.

Get yourself some Logitechs, any is fine.

my creative 5300s are decidedly average-sounding.

If you want 5.1 then don't worry but if you don't mind getting 2.1 then you should get the Creative i-trigues 3500 they are absolutely superb speakers they are very reliable and sound amazing I use them for listening to music and i have watched many movies with them and they have never let me down.

Just an idea (I got them mainly cuz i had nowhere to put 5.1 in my room! But found they were amazing.)

I originally had creative speakers, 4.1 Inspire 4400 but wanted to make the jump to 5.1 for the extra channel plus i had the money to do so, I should've went with creative all along i guess :s Thing is, the shop wants to test the speakers before giving a refund, in which case they will find that the sound is great on music, but is much lower on dvd's but what do i do if they think the amount of sound produced is satisfactory?

depends how long you've had them. you're allowed a refund regardless within a week iirc

Get yourself the Logitech 5.1's at ocuk, bout £70, can't remember thier name (soz ) but ive had them for a year and their gr8, the sub-woofer is especially amazing

cool so i can definately get a refund, even if its because i am unsatisfied with the volume on dvd's even when they are at max?

That would depend entirly on the store. If it been opened they dont have to take it back at all if it works. However most shops will let you as long as it still works fine and is still in the original package. Of course there will always be a time limit for this
