Re: New System - what you think?
The zalman cooler is a bit overpriced for its performance, look at the thermalright ultra extreme 120.
Arctic silver 5 isnt the best thermal paste, look at their MX2 paste, I think it outperforms the silver and costs the same.
I wouldnt bother with the raptor, they are noisy and arent much faster than the new drives. Look at the western digital 640GB drives or the new velociraptors.
Dont bother with DDR3 ram, ram speeds make next to no difference to real world performance. Get a DDR2 board and 4GB 6400 ram.
That PSU is a bit overkill, look at the enermax 82+ series or the be quiet ones u listed. You should only need 500W or so (even that is over the top).
Otherwise looks fine, Q6600 is a good choice.
Re: New System - what you think?
As flewis says really dont bother with the raptor but the velociraptor would be good if you are dead serious about having one.
Both PSU's mentioned are a bit overkill but the dark power ones are very nice. Perhaps the 550W version would suit better. Enermax's Modu82+ are very good also.
Certainly don't bother with DDR3 or that motherboard.
Abit's IP-35 PRO is on scans today only page for £80 a relative bargain and 4GB of PC6400 RAM will do nicely.
The thermalright extreme 120 is the best but a bit pricey imo, the scythe range, ninja, mine, infinity are very good (I have a few of the the ninja's and they are very good) or if you want thermalright the ultima 90 is pretty much as good as the 120 extreme but a bit less :)

Since the new gen gfx cards are coming out in a bit less then two weeks, you might as well wait for them and see how they perform.
Re: New System - what you think?
As shadowmaster says, if you can, hold on, see how those new cards perform.
Re: New System - what you think?
Thanks for the help/advice guys. Having done some further reading & taken some of your advice on board i have changed my build.
I am going to hold out until mid July and see what ATI (4850 or 4870) and Nvidia (9800 GTX+) will have to offer.
