Re: Really need help choosing PC, please please!

If I were you I'd go for a PSU around the 500w mark (less would also be fine) and I'd stick with good brands like Corsair, Seasonic, Tagan, etc.

If I were you I'd go with this motherboard and get the 9600GT. Ofc if you want wifi, you could get a cheap £10ish wireless PCI card.

For cases it's really down to want you like - the Antec 300/900 and the Coolermaster 690 are both highly respected cases.

Re: Really need help choosing PC, please please!

I think the Antec Solo is probably a more suitable case than the 300/900 which are very 'boys and toys' type cases. it's not too expensive, quiet and slightly understated. There are also some Antec cases that come with a decent PSU and don't cost the earth. StaffsMike will no doubt remind us of them.

BTW that difference between the Asus and the MSI) is way too big. £30 maybe, but £60 is pretty much the cost of the Asus: Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK

So I'm guessing that this is an old board he's got hanging around, maybe even a returned one. I hope I'm not doing him an injustice, but the differential just doesn't make sense.

Re: Really need help choosing PC, please please!

Sorry, I'm making it confusing now arent I...he's going for cheaper ram (still 4Gb) as well as the MSI board and thats what's brought it down to the £608 (he may have mentioned a cheaper harddrive as well but I cant remember, I could be making that up)

I've been mulling it overnight and think its pointless trying to save when I've been going on and on about having a decent processor, amount of ram, graphics card etc... think I'll stick with the Asus P5k VM. I've been looking at the Antec uATX case, it comes with its own PSU...would this be sufficient?

Advance Tec Ltd Antec NSK3480 uATX Tower Case - With 380W 80+ PSU Black with Silver front

I like the silver but it looks just a bit borrrring....

Re: Really need help choosing PC, please please!

Yep thats the case. The PSU should be fine. THe 9600GT isn't much of a power suck and I assume there will be no overclocking so it should be fine. It's a very quiet case to

LOL. If you want blue lights then maybe you should get the Antec 300 after all. I'd recommend the one I'm using in the US, except in the UK it's over twice the price that I paid.

I figured that, I built a uATX for my GF using this as opposed to the antec as I knew it would be too boring for her.

Re: Really need help choosing PC, please please!

I got it for £44 from scan with a free voip phone too.. couldnt resist the deal as it's normally around £55 though.

Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK ..even more.

You also have to factor in changing the fans as they are very noisey and it doesn't come with a PSU. So it's deffinatly not a cheap option lol

If it had been for me I'd have got the antec

Re: Really need help choosing PC, please please!

Liken a PSU to the heart in your body

If a bad PSU blows up it takes your whole PC with it typically. In the rare case that good one blows up it will only kill itself not the rest of your PC.

bit plain again but these are very nice
Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK

fits in a living room quite well
