    Which PSU ?

Currently have the hiper 580w modular but after something...a little better.

    Sys spec :

    e6600
    512mb 8800gt
    gigabyte ds3 mobo
    few hdd's
    2gb g.skill 6400

I want to upgrade to a quad shortly and 4gb ram and then take the plunge with vista so i have been looking at the corsair psu's. question is ...will the 520w be enough ?

    yep plenty.

It's a great PSU but you can also look at enermax's modu82+ and the new be quiet dark power range all available at scan

    Re: Which PSU ?

be quiet this was £65 last time it was on today only so it might be worth giving themanwhocan@scan.co.uk an email see if you can get them back on, if it takes your fancy that is.

modu82+ Mr Blitzen's current favourite I believe and I trust him when it comes to PSU's

both the next step in efficency and and SPCR showed the modu82+ to be even more "silent" than the already silent corsair.

I really like the corsair unit and I'd be tempted to stick with them to be honest as the two I have are doing a fine job (and the other build I did with one is still good to)

    +1.
These are both the best units you can buy at the 500W-600W power range.

Until you see that Enermax modu82+ in the 'flesh' you cant appreciate HOW GOOD it really is. Its a great looking machine and a powerful performer.

I have also been looking at reviews recently on these Dark Power units and i must admit, my curiosity is tapping up my wallet.

Please let me know why the Corsair is the best bet. (and not the one about the 5 year warranty). I think the Fanboi-ism stretches a little further for you though towards Corsair doesnt it ? I have no affliation with Corsair, whereas Scan does I realise your goal, having the connection between Scan and Corsair, is to sell the Corsairs but to say the 520W is 'the best bet' has absolutley no substance at all and is misleading.

As for being an Enermax Fanboi....yes i am. I do own the 520W Corsair aswell though. The two perform very well indeed and i like both PSUs alot.
The Enermax modu+82 (and the Liberty for that matter), are both higher quality units. They also have better connections and more robust modular cabling. This is the reason i am a 'Fanboi'.

The ONE thing that does put me off Enermax though now (to be fair to you Paul) is the warranty issue. Enermax are all talk and slow action these days. If this doesnt change then my next buy would probably be from elsewhere.

On the other hand, IF someone buys a Corsair, then they are fool-hardy not to buy it from Scan.
Corsair have a VERY POOR RMA procedure for European customers and tend to only look after the USA/Canadian customers.
This has since change with their relationship with Scan, as Scan have made the RMA process for the UK customers very good.
This in itself, if requiring a decent PSU at a lower price to its (slightly superior) competition, is a VERY GOOD selling point and Scan/Corsair should be applauded for that.

I knew this would get your back up

Ok let me start my correcting you, we do have a relationship with Corsair but this does not mean I would personally recomend them just on the basis of that. How you find this mis-leading is quite franky insane I will point out your in-correctness (if thats a word) I point out the 5 year warranty because it is a good selling point if it becomes faulty within the 5 years you as you state send it back to Scan in this case where the OP is asking for recomendations do you think I would recomend him the Corsair then tell him to buy it from a competitor? £10 extra for a better warranty which is with Scan and not an external handler and performance wise vertually the same if not better and by your own statement not mine Enermax's RMA being slow I know which one I would choose.

So my recomendation now being explained properly seems to make sense and hopefully not mis-leading

    Re: Which PSU ?

If the Corsair unit fails and you RMA to SCAN, do you get a replacement part, or simply refund for the current value of the unit (ie minus value of your usage over the last x years)?
