Anyone know of a decent water resistant (at least) rucksack that'll take a 17" Macbook Pro that doesn't cost the earth? Everything I'm finding is about 60 quid, which for a bag is taking the proverbial!
I picked a bag up the other day that looked perfect since the internal size was OK - only to forget to check the entry zip, which is only 15"...
Any suggestions?

I reccommend the Pakuma range. They used to be very expensive, but they've come down a lot, search PC World for 'Pakuma' and you'll see it's about £25.
They are rock solid bags, incredibly well made, high quality zips, good pockets, nice materials. It doesn't look like a laptop bag so it isn't as obviously nickable as something with a massive 'Targus' label on it. It has chest and waist straps so it doesn't move about while you cycle, there's shedloads of room in it, the padding for the laptop is excellent, and while it doesn't claim to be waterproof, I've worn mine in some ridiculous rain and never suffered a problem!

Totally agree, I have one of these Akara bags which I picked up in PC World for £25 and it great, stable, could do with a few more stash pockets for peripherals/power adaptors but the padding around the laptop is brilliant and you can easily fit a lever arch file and your lunch in there as well as your laptop.

TK Max actually had a good few in the other day. My mate ended up buying a Jeep branded one, whether they have one to fit a 17" MBP in don't know.

the 17" Pakuma is better than the 15", in terms of pockets etc. Have a 15" laptop, but in retrospect would have bought the larger bag

One thing I heard about Pakuma messenger style bags (as opposed to the backpacks) is that they just have a flap over the top and front, but this doesn't always keep everything covered inside. If it rains then the rain can get in at the "sides".
Can anyone confirm this?

Im not sure mate cuase i have the backpack style which is the one id reccommend. Especially for cycling. Far more support and practicality.

Went to get the Packuma today, no stock in.Since my other rucksack's had it I had a look at what else they'd got and nothing else fitted the bill. Popped over the road to Currys and they'd got a sale on. Ended up with a £70 Toshiba Techair rucksack for £25. It's only a 15.4 rated bag, but the Macbook Pro fits like a glove. Chuffed to bits - lots of other bags were going for similar money as well so if you're in the market for one Currys instore (not online) is the place to go for now
