    Overclocking help please!

    Hiya,

I have tried to overclock my processor by changing the fsb in the bios from 166 to 200mhz times by a multipier of 11.5 and I save settings exit. Then it won't get to start up screen instead just as it is going to, i get a black screen, and I have to reset as i can't do anything.

    Any help would be great

    Thanks

    Toma_Hawk

I have a similiar rig, and I find that my Barton Xp2600 on an MSI KT6 Delta wont go above 186 FSB, with everything else at auto. The multiplier is specced at 11.5. Auto seems fine, I'm not very up on this yet. But I think an increase in the Vcore seems to be needed when reaching a certain point in upping the FSB. But a techy mate has said leave the Vcore alone!! Burn out issues apparently. Does yours boot up ok after resetting the CMOS Toma hawk??

should probably have asked about your ram as well. Whats highest previous overclock you've managed cos 2.3 is a fair old hike up the scale. You need to be looking at your memory/cpu settings as well - asus do a percentage thing don't they for in sync which is what you want, unless your ram is slower inwhich case an over percenrtage would allow you a higher fsb than ram speed.

Interesting to note that Kushtibariand I have Bartons and I have mine running at 2.13 from 1.992(standard rating) and Kushtibaris at 2.0 fron 1.83 (I think thats right)

Which would suggest possibly 150 to 180 ish is as much as they like without serious modding...

No its my first time overclocking my cpu so dont really have much knowledge on it but in my bios the fsb goes up from 100-133-166-200 so i just put on 200 as it next step?!

    I have Samsung 512mb ddr Pc3200 CL3.

p.s I was wondering how high I could put it as I have a cool system cpu around 35-8 c on full load (with Aero 7 lite turned to jus over half way so about 2800 rpm)

its a big hike up - your ram would be able to take it but I think you should maybe start again from scratch. If the cpu isn't multiplier locked just try it out a little bit at a time, maybe try 10x200 to see if it'll run at that speed and make sure your ratios etc are set up right for the change in speed.

Did you change any settings in the bios other than just setting the fsb to 200?

Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to sit down with a coffee and a biscuit and read the manual and go through all the differnet settings in the bios - basically you want to make sure that your ram and cpu are in sync, your agp is still at 66 and pci at 33.
