New keyboard advice

Hello everyone,

Now, I have around £45 to £55 to spend on a keyboard mostly used for gaming and general net surfing. I've been looking at the Logitech G15v2 and it does look pretty decent, however as usual I do like to hear other people's opinions.

Is it a good buy or should I go for something else?

ok it doesnt have the 300 macro keys but it does have macro keys with special functions for like play/pause, copy/paste/internet/email music e.t.c

The Cherry G80-3000 with blue clicky switches (there's a version with not so nice black linear switches as well, cherry's website has the details of the model numbers on the keyboard datasheet).

I don't know what it's like for gaming but it's supposed to be one of the nicest keyboards to type on available at the moment. It is only 3-key rolloverwhich would bug me for gaming but if you're considering the G15 then that's not going to be an issue. (since it's 3-key rollover as well)

I bought a raptor-gaming K1 which is a cherry G80-1800 modified with 7-key rollover but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else - it's overpriced and the other additions by raptor-gaming are dreadfully designed.

Personally If there any no keyboards out now that you find really beautiful I'd either go for one that has a definite feature you need/want (like I did) or just go for a basic one (I've heard good things about the £15 cymotion expert). I suspect most of the 'gaming' keyboards are just standard keyboards with a different case with frag-faster stripes and a 100% markup slapped on top of the price.

Had a Microsoft/Razer Relcusa, good key action but was a little big for my desk, also didn't like the small enter key.

Then had a Razer Lycosa but didn't like the laptop style key action and also had a small enter key.

Now have a Logitech G15v2 and I'm happy, very good key action. From all the reviews I was expecting another small enter key, however it's the normal double hight key on the UK version. I also find the orange backlight easier on my eyes than the blue of the Razer boards. The G keys on the left take a bit of getting use too as you can hit them by accident, I think I would be happier if they made a version without the G keys, the size also suits my desk.

I'm going to buy a Razer Lycosa in a couple of weeks.

If Laptop style keys don't bother you (I find them easier to type with then the really tall keys...) then I would go for that one.

The G15 doesn't really offer you much for what you pay.

You get a uselss LCD screen, it's HUGE and also it's ugly as hell I believe....

Unfortunately I do hate laptop style keys I just find it awkward to type on them and i'll always be typing wrong letters.

Nevertheless I have been looking at the Lycosa but the reviews don't do it justice. Everywhere I go i've heard the LED backlighting on it is pointless as it's too dim! Added to that it costs more than the Logitech, which doesn't have laptop keys and has a decent backlighting, doesn't do the Lycosa justice in my book.

The Reclusa is ruled on firstly because I don't really enjoy the look of the thing.

I think i'm still favoring the G15 atm.
