    Yeah thats fine.

Because the chip is 1066MHz and the board is 1333MHz you get that 267MHz overclock "for free" as it were, by which I mean without actually overclocking the motherboard, just the chip.

Re: Building new PC need help please

Hi there I am back again. I just wanted to know what mobo I should get. I am thinking either the Asus P5K or the Abit IP-35 Dark Raider which is the more reiable and I might overclock but not very much say from 2.4 to 3.0Ghz maybe less. What do you guys think?

I'm a big fan of the Abit board, it's a fantastic board with a great layout and very high quality imo. OK it doesn't have solid caps all round but unless you want to overclock the nuts off it that counts for very little, it has them where it counts anyway.

I'm a long standing asus user also but the support you get (or at least got) from Abit is fantastic so until they let me down I will be trying to use them as much as possible

If your going for the seagate 320gb, then go for the model that ends with 13AS, these are the new models - 7200.11, and are single platter.

and get a regular p35 board, sli boards are fail if your not gonna use sli.

Good call looney. Seagate, samsung and western digital (probably more) have single platter drives now, deffinatly try and grab one if you can

Are these HDDs more reliable because I ve had so many problems with HDD before. So a £60 p35 board will be good for me?

WD drives perform slightly better but I've found Seagate to be more reliable, I've had 4 WD die on me but never a single Seagate, I've still got an old 2.1gb in my sisters desktop thats going on 12+ years old used daily and its still going strong...

    Methos.

Re: Building new PC need help please

It's just a very subjective area. HDD faliure is one of the, if not the most annoying thing that can happen to a PC so we tend to get very angry at the manafacturer that causes us this inconvenience.

I've used western digital for OS/APPS/DATA, everything really That's not to say they are in fact the best, just the one I've had the most luck with.

Hitachi are another one I have a fair bit of luck with but some people would rather chew razors than recommend them lol

Other than a PSU blowing, and taking out the motherboard, CPU, graphics card and hard drive, in the process
Beauty is in the eye of the beer-holder
