Jeez this drive is loud, it's a retail version with flashed with latest firmware. In fact it's the loudest thing in my new system. Any utils or anything out there to quiet down the jet engine noise.
Thanks.

..£17 or so will get you a nice samsung drive
You could try getting some rubber gromets or something to mount it so there is less vibration.
I reckon Lite-on drives are the noisiest on the market! It's the reason I'd never buy another one.
Pioneer are great (they're always releasing firmware updates for their drives), +/or Samsung or LG are among the quietest I've used.
There's actually a new 22x SATA Samsung available for <£16 - the SH-S223F
I wouldn't throw any more money at the Lite-on to try and quieten it.
Better off trying to sell and replace with a quiter drive such as those recommended above
Having tested a ton of drives a while ago, I concluded all drives are noisy as well these days!
Can anyone honestly say they have found a quiet DVD drive?

Samsung Drives are quietest I've used especially in my P182. Vibrations are minimal so there is very little of what I consider typical optical drive noise.
That said when they spin up they are as bas as any really. My old sonly notebook drive was the best, couldn't hear that at all.
The drive in the Mac Mini is pretty inaudible excpet when trying to rip Cds to mp3s..
try Cdfreaks (CDFreaks.com - Worlds largest consumer electronics community) or CDrinfo for reviews of drives which will tell you how loud they are.
My lite on DVD drive is not all that noisy, you can barley hear it above the fans ect,
Don't think I can use rubber grommets with my current case.
I've had several Pioneer drives in the past, DVR-A04, DVR-108, DVR-111. They were great as long as they were shipping, then no more firmware updates from Pioneer.
I have a retail PATA LiteOn LH-20A1H here as well and it's nowhere as noisy. Part of the reason I liked the LiteOn's are because of the changeable bezels, which I change to black to match my case and prefer the cream tray as I can see it in the dark.
Will take a look at Samsung and Optiarc drives.
Cheers guys.
