One 150gb Raptor Vs 4 160 gb hdds in a full on raid

Something just struck me. For the price of a 150 gb Raptor you could get 4 of these
Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK

Do the 4 hdd raid thingy (can't remember the number for it) and u got 320gb thats fast AND safe.

How does this setup compare to in speed and reliability to the Raptor?

    RAID 5?

    1 750gb F1 is faster than a Raptor.

Cheaper and bigger too it appears. Maybe two of them in "back-up" raid if they do have a rep for being unsafe(ish)

    you mean RAID 1

I don't know any motherboard that actually does RAID 5 though. I would advise you to use RAID 1 but stay away from RAID 0 its not that much faster.

Better sequential read/write. Emphasis on the word sequential. The Raptor remains faster for random applications, no amount/level of RAID will change that (even 4x F1s).
