I heard that highend phenoms have a problem running on boards with the 770 chipset, but i have also heard of people running 9850s on them.

    your opinions are welcomed

    New build?

The Abit one is better with an 8 pin CPU connecter for higher TDP rated processors.

Are you sure you can't spend a little more to get something better? Like say this: Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK Unfortunately AMD don't have the best choice with motherboards either its over £100 for a good board or under that for ok boards.

I think even if the motherboards you linked are good to use with the current Phenom cores I doubt they would last past this generation. The 790FX on the other hand is set to be compatible with the next version of CPU cores so is best suited for future proofing.

    Re: Motherboard decision

This build is kinda for one year, i know for sure that current intel motherboards wont support nehalem cpu so i dont really see the point. The computer will be used for playing two games mainly, MMOs games i currently play called wakfu and dofus ( dont laugh ).

Hopefully one year from now i will upgrade it, and since nehalem will require new boards, if i went intel now i will need to buy a new motherboard anyway.

I am not really big on overclocking and my budget is kinda limited so can't afford the 8000 series intel cpu or the q6600.

The games are really ram intensive so i am thinking of getting a amd 4800 and speninding the rest on extra 2gb or ram to make a total of 4gb.

I think the max i can o spend on my cpu is £60, no point in spending more that.

No, if the games don't require fancy specs than why bother paying the premium for fancy parts?

As long as you aren't expecting to play Crysis on this thing then I'm sure AMD will be fine.

    Re: Motherboard decision

There's also the option of a 780G chipset board, if you don't need a rake of slots.
