    Dual chanel mobo's

    Sorry another stupid question

I saw somewhere on another forum (sorry cant remember where)
that the dual channel will still work if the centre slot contains a memory stick of twice the value (ie 2 256 sticks with 1 512 in the middle) it sounds odd to me but then so do a lot of things to do with computers!

    any comments

    Thanks for the link Trickle

but could not see the answer there

What I came across was on the MSI forum pages when I was trying to check compatability issues. I have since found the post and what it seems to say is that the chips in slots 1 and 2 should be equal and the chip in slot 3 should be thier sum. My understanding was dual channel only worked using 2 chips one in slot 1 and 1 in slot 3 and if you used all 3 slots it would not.
I just wondered if someone knew the difinitive answer
