    Help on new gaming rig.

Hey all, I know I posted a thread like this before but after a lot of research I did I changed my opinion and also my knowledge about hardware in PC - Thanks Hexus

Anyway, let's get straight down to business. I want a pc mainly for gaming - not crysis but most of all Call of Duty 4 and Age of Conan. I know Age of Conan supports quad core CPU's so I am pretty sure about getting a quad core Q6600 by Intel - Since i know it does handle heat alot better than the AMD. Other than that I'd like to overclock it to 3.2MHz, I'm seriously a beginner to overclocking, never did it before. Will I be able with the guide on this forums and some other guides all over the internet?

Also, since I'm only a student who loves to go out and have some fun money is a well-known problem to me. I got a budget for about 900 euro's. On a hardware website you can build your own rig. But if they need to put it together it costs me about another 55 euro's for the assembly. Will I as a beginner be able to build it myself? My stephfather has been in the business for about 5-6 years ago. Alot has changed since. Is it like still the same? I'd like to put those 55 euro's in the graphic card so it does perform alot better than the cheaper ones . But all together. Here is what I put together and I would love to hear your opinion about it. All critism is welcome and I appreciate your comments.

the rig looks good to me... all i would say is that there are newer graphics card coming out within a few weeks i've heard which for the price you would pay for a 9800gtx i would wait for... if you're in a hurry an 8800gt is a much cheaper card with only a small performance decrease...

Re: Help on new gaming rig.

System looks fine but please don't purchase that graphics card now when in less than 2 weeks the new ones are going to be released.

The GTX280 will be far out of your price range but I'd bet that the GTX260 and HD4850 will be in your price range and both perform better than the 9800GTX, I can't say for sure that the GTX260 or HD4850 will perform better but preliminary reports reveal that the HD4850 does(not exactly trustworthy info but its likely to be in the same ballpark).

Its best to wait and see what the new cards are like before you make your purchase tbh.

Other than that I'd say those components are fine

Re: Help on new gaming rig.

You can easily build it yourself.

Graphics cards will change next week, new nvidia's and then new ATi's to follow so in your budget you might as well wait.

It's not a bad PSU but the corsair 520W HX will be more than enough power and a better overall power supply

Motherboard wise, you are better off with a P35/P45 board. I'd probably just get an Abit IP-35 dark raider. It's a great quality board and very well priced.

Not sure about that case, I would get the coolermaster CM-690

    Next week?

Did I not get the memo? I thought we were still on for the 17th?

And back on topic rig looks good and building yourself is not hard as most components come with instructions. Your stepfather could probably help you though ^^

Re: Help on new gaming rig.

I would not get that Disc drive, there is no need for IDE anymore considering a SATA drive is only about £4 more, try this one http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=819459 You could also get a lightscribe drive instead but that is really a perk you either want or not and is not really advantageous spec wise.

The nVidia cards should be out 2mrw (aparantly the GTX 280 only with the GTX 260 following within the week) and the ATI cards are out on 25th but suppsedly have very little cards manufactured to be readily available then, so basically July.

Thanks for all replys first of all.

About the graphic card. I will wait then and check how much the GTX 260 will be. If it's all true what you guys are telling me i think i'd rather pick that one. About the case. I was actually planning to get that one. Thought i picked it ;O! Anyway thanks alot. about overclocking. Can I?
