    Re: Recommended Wattage PSU?

On a side note, my new PSU will be here on Tuesday, my current PSU is a Qtec Gold 550W thing, it is making a high pitched noise and an "electricity flowing" type sound, would this be the thing causing shut down or sleep errors?

Hopefully wanted to make sure it was the PSU causing the problems and not something else dieing on my machine, on a side note the computer is turning itself off about 4 times a day.

    Thanks
    Jon

Its very very likely that your psu is causing the problem. I would recommend you take the psu out of your system now before it possibly causes some damage to your pc components. Qtec unfortunately are known to make crap psu's.

Q-Tec are well known for blowing AND for taking out other components when they do.

    Re: Recommended Wattage PSU?

Sorry for the delay in my response, didn't get an email someone had replied, but thanks so much for the input, I will shutdown the computer and not have it back on until I have fitted the new PSU.

    Thanks everyone, really appreciated.

THere is no doubt in my mind that the PSU is causing the issues. If the Q-Tec blows it WILL DEFINTELY take some, if not all of your components with it as there is no circuit protection in those units.

The QTEC PSUs are widely acknowledged and believed by most enthusiasts as being THE WORST PSU available on the UK market.

In fact, its safe to say, they even make EZCOOL PSUs look decent (and they are a real pile of dirt).

    Re: Recommended Wattage PSU?

    Hi,

Got the PSU today, fitted and working perfectly, does anyone know if a 24 pin to 20 pin converter is actually needed?

I checked the clearances again and the 24 pin connector fitted with 4 pins hanging off the end, does it matter if they aren't connected to anything?

    Thanks
    Jon
