Re: Recommended Wattage PSU?
Corsair HX520 (modular). Or if you're strapped for cash get an FSP of 450W+.
Re: Recommended Wattage PSU?
I'd go for the 520 HX also but in terms of what it actually needs it will be a fair bit lower.
I run a corsair 520 Hx and a 45w VX and they a both solid units and very quiet :)
Re: Recommended Wattage PSU?
Hi,
Thanks for the replies, sorry I didn't reply sooner, thats looks a good psu, might be a little over my budget.
Problem is I am trying not to get another budget PSU, so may spend the extra, I was thinking of this one, just wondered about your thoughts on it :-
580W HiperPower HPU-4M580
Tried to link it but you need 5 posts first.
Thanks
Jon
Re: Recommended Wattage PSU?
Don't go for a Hiper model, quality isn't up to par compared to Corsair ones
Re: Recommended Wattage PSU?
Nooooo. Not the Hiper 580. They have a disturbing habit of blowing up. Though to be fair they don't take other components with them.
Re: Recommended Wattage PSU?
Any decent 400+ watt psu should handle your system.
If your looking something cheap but very good-
Go for the FSP 700watt PSU, its only £28.19, superb value for money
http://www.scan.co.uk/todayonly/#supersavers
Scroll down its under super savers, second from bottom.
Or if your looking to spend some more-

Or the Corsair 520 HX (as recommended above) if you want modular.
All of the above three are very good units :)
Re: Recommended Wattage PSU?
Hmm, ok, so not a Hiper :)
Being a bit cash-strapped its a bit of a nightmare finding a decent power supply, ok bearing in mind my components, how about a :-
FSP ATX-450PNF
Its just about in my budget, which for reference is around £40.
Cheers
Jon
Re: Recommended Wattage PSU?
Wow that FSP unit normally sells for over £70, sounds like a good deal on that?
So its between that and the Corsair you mentioned.
I guess the 700W is a good unit and would be better overall than the Corsair or is there not much between them?
Cheers
Jon
Re: Recommended Wattage PSU?
I would just go with the cheapest personally, thye are both decent units, the Corsair is modular and has a longer warranty though I think, but it's more expensive :P

Its a very good deal. I would say that the Corsair VX450 maybe slightly quieter, and has 5 years warranty, but if it dies I think you have to send it to the USA which is a pain. However the FSP is good future proof if you ever plan to go sli/crossfire with some power hungry cards.
I would personally go for FSP but you cannot go wrong with either psu. :)
Re: Recommended Wattage PSU?
Thanks for the info everyone I have decided to go with the FSP model but before I do, I can't seem to find much info on the type of connectors that come with it, one review says it has an 8 pin connector for the motherboard, where as I have the 1 x 20 pin and a single 1 x 4 pin, anyone know if this PSU will work with a 20 pin board with a seperate 4 x pin?
Hope that made sense :)
Jon
Re: Recommended Wattage PSU?
Hi,
After much searching, I notice that the PSU I just bought has a 24 pin motherboard connector, mine is only 20 pin, does anyone know if the odd 4 extra pins is detachable at all?
Thanks
Jon
Re: Recommended Wattage PSU?
I think somone before said it was a single block of 24 pins, it will just overhang one side of the 20 pin sockt on your motherboard which shud be fine, unless you have capacitors or other objects blocking it
Re: Recommended Wattage PSU?
Yeah I have a capacitor right next to the end of the block, does anyone know if it is safe just to cut off the other four pins? I dont mean the wires, just cut the block?
Cheers
Jon
Re: Recommended Wattage PSU?
You can get a 24 to 20 pin connector for a few quid, if it doesn't already come with one.
