Which of these two systems? Scan or Chillblast

    Hi,
I would really appreciate if someone could give me some advice on which of these two pre-built systems would be the best to go for? These are the two i have narrowed it down to

    Chillblast
    http://www.chillblast.com/product.ph...5&cat=0&page=1
I will be changing to two 500g hard drives on this and up to Vista 64bit

    Scan
    http://3xs.scan.co.uk/ShowSystem.asp?SystemID=671
    Changing to Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450,Two 500g hard drives,No soundcard,Vista 64bit.

My main requirements are to use it for are for music which is the reason i want it quiet and photo editing.I don't play games at all.
Build quality and customer service is very important to me so i would love some opinions on Chillblast and Scan.
    Many thanks.

Re: Which of these two systems? Scan or Chillblast

    The chillblast link doesn't work.

Scan are well known and well liked here on hexus as they are kind enough to have both a care fourm on hexus and give hexites free delivery

Their customer service is widely accepted as the best there can be. 3XS system even if a little pricey are well known to be of excellent quality and build with the up most care and attention and fully tested

That particular 3XS is very similar in principle to my own silent build and it works very quietly. You can make it silent by changing the 3 case fans to nexus/yate loons and undervolt them. Carefuly on the heatsink you get though, I'm not sure what that akasa is like, the IFX-14 could be made very quiet though.

Re: Which of these two systems? Scan or Chillblast

Personally I'd say go for the Scan system, simply put Scan have a good reputation for aftermarket support and whilst not everything is guarenteed to go your way, they'll be fair and open in their dealings.

On the other hand, the Chillblast system does look like it'll meet your needs of Quiet, something you can't guarentee with the Scan system.

Personally, I'd phone Scan's 3XS team and give your goals and budget, they'll often customise something to meet your needs if you're willing to wait a little bit longer and they really do know their computers.

Re: Which of these two systems? Scan or Chillblast

I consider Chillblast to be a reputable company, so I do not think that's a significant issue. Then again, the Scan PC doesn't look like noisy build either. The one thing that I find missing on the Chillblast PC though, is lack of discrete sound card (I also don't understand why you would leave the sound card out of the Scan PC if music is your first priority).

    Thanks for the replys.

Im using an external dac (usb) into a preamp into powered monitors so the internal soundcard will be by-passed.

I appreciate the comments keep em coming.

Re: Which of these two systems? Scan or Chillblast

Just to check you know you could save yourself money by buying the parts from Scan and building it yourself. Right?

Then you can get exactly what you want and you could save yourself some money too.

Re: Which of these two systems? Scan or Chillblast

    Yeah what fifthfreedom says

Other than that if you really don't want to build it yourself I quite like Chillblast system, mainly because it offers a HD3870 instead of the lack lustre 8600GT/GTS. But then again just give Scan a ring like David says and you could possibly get the card added

I think being on the hexus forums you'll come to appreciate the customer focus scan does offer here and if you plan to hang around on the forums then I would go for Scan myself, but definitely phone to get the ATI card as if your not interested speed for games then ATI have the better picture quality and movie playback so would be a better choice from a media perspective.

Re: Which of these two systems? Scan or Chillblast

Don't like the HSF on the Chilliblast. Won't be much better than stock with regard to OCing. You need a beast like the Scythes or TRs. Also at that sort of price I'd want the extra oomph of a Q9450 for a few $ more.

Re: Which of these two systems? Scan or Chillblast

for that kind of money (£800-£900) i would seriously consider building it yourself its not that hard i was here about a year ago and i did it myself. its literally following instructions. im sure if you find someone who you can add to messenger they will help you out as did someone to me
but i know your fear, its if you damage the expensive hardware right? seriously if you do it step by step its really that simple

Re: Which of these two systems? Scan or Chillblast

Building is obviously the best way to get the most hardware for the money but some people don't like to fix problems themselves etc.. and just want the work done quickly and efficently by someone who knows what they are doing.

Re: Which of these two systems? Scan or Chillblast

I'm all for it and I'm sure everyone is willing to help the best they can.

I guess it's also fair to say that most things you buy come with between 3 - lifetime warranties and you can bias your components towards good warranty/RMA service without compromising quality.

Scan are very good for warranty returns of course but this generally runs out after a year or so and then it's straight to manafacturer.

But one thing to note is corsair power supplier are offered with a 5 year warranty straight to scan (obviously only if you buy from scan) which is a great deal
