Scythe Mine Mounting Kit - Thermalright LGA775 ?

    Hi

The Thermalright LGA775 Bolt-Thru-Kit Converts Ultra-90 and HR-01 for use on 775 Motherboards is apparently compatible with the Scythe Ninja.

Does anyone know if it is compatible with the Scythe Mine ?

    Thanks
    M

you need to check the space immediately around the 4 screws/push pin area, if there is plenty of room then it'll fit since you need a screw driver to tighten the bolts

Great, thanks Lucky . There's nothing around it which would get in the way

Unsure, but he may mean in terms of getting a screw driver to line up with the screw and not be hindered by the actual heat sink (scythe)?

Re: Scythe Mine Mounting Kit - Thermalright LGA775 ?

The Ninja uses the pushpins to hold the sink directly to the mobo (with a CPU in the middle ) with the sink mounting arms acting as leaf-springs, so a swap to the Thermalright sprung bolt system is straightforward.

Looking at the Mine system, the pushpins just hold a pair of mounting gizmos down, with the sink then clipping onto lugs on these, so (a) you're not fighting to get the last pushpins locked down, (b) the mounting gizmos should stop the mobo bending. I think it's possible to use the LGA775 kit but pointless.

At best, you could use the backplate with ordinary bolts to bolt the mounting gizmos to the mobo. Then for security you're just relying on the clip system (which is better than relying on neither the clips nor the pushpins to fail).

    Thanks everyone

Chadders - thought so and yeh there's nothing around it which would obstruct screw driver access thankfully

cpemma - Think I see what you're saying, but those mounting 'gizmos' get slotted quite securely into the heat sink first, and then you have to try and push the whole unit into the mobo. I had so much trouble getting the last pushpins in, and I am not convinced that it is seated perfectly. It isn't running overly hot, but it's not as cool as I feel it should be. The LGA775 looks like it will be quite worthwhile.

Edit - cheers for the spcr link A very nice temp drop with the 'bolt-thru' kit compared to the stock pins.

I finally got round to re-fitting my Ninja 'B' with the LGA775 Bolt-Thru Kit, it's made a slight difference in (Prime) load temp bearing in mind the earlier results were a few months ago at a lower ambient. Today ambient = 20.4C half-way up my case, IIRC it was about 18C on the earlier tests. Not as major as SPCR got, but my main reason was the added security.

    Pushpins:

    Bolt-Thru:

I've misunderstood the Mine system, I thought it clipped on after fitting the lugged bits to the mobo. This link shows the system clearly; providing you can get a posidriver to the screws the bolt-down kit would be an improvement. It's easy with the Ninja, providing you have a 150mm blade on the driver.
