First Shuttle, Shim Or Not?.

Got my SK41 here now, and hopefully the CPU (XP2400+) should be here in the morning for it, now, would you recommend fitting the Shuttle supplied shim or not?. I figure as long as i'm careful fitting the ICE system it'll be no worse (and apply no more pressure than) a normal HSF?, just as long as its tightened up evenly and slowly. Any there any benefits to using/not using the shim?.

hi there - when i first built mine I didn't install the shim, and when i did install it the CPU temp went up, so out it came.

not sure what other people thought, but i say leave it out.

trick is to tighten the ICE on to the processor in an "X" pattern, and not too tight...

I think he means to tighten the screws in the opposite corners at the same time, so as not to cause stress and buckling!

So why do Shuttle include a shim if it doesnt help temps ? is it just to pack around the core of the CPU ?

its to give the user some protection against crusing the core of the cpu
