    MSI P45 Platinum 1st impressions!

Had this board for about a week and have got to say its been a major dissapointment. Can't get above 450FSB no matter what I try and thats with a QX9650 and an E8400 that will do 520FSB on my P35 board. A user on overclockers forums has got it to 571FSB with an E8500 but I couldn't get anywhere near that because of contant blue screens and cold boot problems.

I suspect it is a bios issue with memory as 2 instances of high FSB's have been with dedicated 1066 memory. I have ballistix 667 memory that overclocks past 1100mhz but wont go above 900 on this. I have seen Asus boards have the same problems with memory. I have never seen so many bios options either!

Re: MSI P45 Platinum 1st impressions!

Have you tried increasing the motherboards voltage? I was unaware of this because the Gigabyte board I have automatically does it for me as well as has some special power phase system to make it less likely to cause problems but its entirely probable that the board is not allocating enough power for itself. So to help it reach higher clocks you could try upping the motherboard voltage to help.

Just a thought could just as easily be that you got unlucky and the board doesn't like to overclock.

Have you got the latest BIOS? At this early stage, beta BIOSes will be coming out thick and fast!

Yup tried 3 different ones so far with slight improvement one one. I have noticed that there are very few retail reviews of the P45 chipset I wonder why?
