    Mobo face off!

"In the red corner: The unstoppable IP-35 Pro

In the blue corner, the pretty boy Abit P5K Premium WiFiApp

    Contenders, Ready! Gladiators, Ready!"

Sorry, guys, I've got the urge, the urge to splurge some cash on hardware. Thinking Q6600. Scan recommends the former board, which is cheaper. The Abit is flashier and seems to be v v v impressive. I'm hoping to OC by just raising the FSB: on my current 939 rig, it's pretty simple, and I'm not sure I'll be too good with RAM voltage alterations, etc. Anyone got any firm views on these two Mobos?

Edit: D'oh, they're both Abit. I meant that Wifi is flashier.

Have you already got a decent WiFi card ? Or are you hardwired into your router ? If it were me I'd not worry too much about the one with WiFi. If I had my way at home here we'd all be hard wired into the router, I hate wireless with a passion.

I am hardwired, actually. I was more concerned about the BIOS (ease of use), and whether my scythe ninja rev b will fit on both, and generally how they run.

    Re: Mobo face off!

I wouldnt buy either at those prices.

Both of them are carrying a chipset that is 3-4 behind the current model.
Im not disputing the P35 isnt a good chipset. Its just getting on now and isnt worth the £100 to buy.

X38 is marginally better value and the X48 is a tiny bit beter still. For the extra £20-40 you would need to spend then these are more worthwhile.

    Re: Mobo face off!

If you want the P5K-E at a better price then
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/129126
    is the way to go.

But if you want to spend £100 on a motherboard then go for the P45's
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=818508
It's just like the P5K's with their P5Q-E wifi and P5Q deluxe etc but with the newer chipset.

I've got a P5K-E Wifi and it's a good board. Mild overclocking will be easy for the Q6600. Maybe anything over 3ghz will be a bit harder unless you get a real good cpu.

    Re: Mobo face off!

The problem with P45s, X48s, and even X38s, is that no-one has quite made a board which is good as the IP35 Pro. Nevertheless I agree with Blitzen, that's too much to pay now for a P35. Either get it as a Today Only, or look for a X48 or P45. DFI have a good X48 IIRC.

    Re: Mobo face off!

BUT... Thorsson, you'd go IP35 Pro, would you? Of the two?

    Re: Mobo face off!

Well I have one, and I know it's a great board. Stable, all the right bits and OCs well. Been the best behaved board I've had in a long while.
