    Dark Raider Problem...

    Lo,

I started bulding by new rig today with the following specs:

    PSU: 620W Enermax MODU+
    Mobo: iP35 Abit Dark Raider
    RAM: Corsair DDR2 2 x 2 Gig sticks
    CPU: Q6600

So I whacked it all in my Antec 1200 and powered it up

    Nothing happened.

I get no screen output whatsoever, and the fans switch on for a few seconds, the hard drives start up and then it all powers down for a few seconds and starts over. The length of time which this cycle takes to complete varies from 1 second to about 10.

I know for sure it's not the RAM unless both sticks are damaged.
I don't think it's a PSU issue because even when the board is powered, there is no monitor output.

So I am left thinking my Motherboard is probably damaged.

Can anyone tell me whether they agree with this conclusion? If I'm wrong what else could it be?

Also, should I first contact Abit support then return the board to them? Or just contact SCAN for an RMA?

    Help greatly appreciated,

    FifthFreedom

Just a quick question on the RAM, have you tried a single stick in all of the slots.. it's normally a specific slot which will work..

Could be a short I guess. Might be worth taking the mobo out and sticking in on some carboard (mobo box does the trick).

    Re: Dark Raider Problem...

@ StaffsMike - I've tried one stick in each slot with no change
I looked for shorts last night and saw nothing obvious. The case is dead flat underneath so I'm not sure...

@ BUFF - The graphics card is not causing the problem but it could be damaged anyway. Which would explain the no monitor output but not the random restarts....

    Any other ideas?

    OK...

I've RMA'd the Mobo and the PSU to scan.

Lets hope they can deal with it... (And quickly...)

I wonder how long they'll take to ship it back to me...?

I want to be playing next Wednesday as I'll have the new GFX by then too...

sometimes things that you think may not be relevant can be.

I don't see you saying anything about random restarts.

it could be that you actually have 2 unrelated problems.

    Re: Dark Raider Problem...

My guess is the mobo - i had a similar problem a while ago.

Did you try building it outside the case before you RMA'd?

    Re: Dark Raider Problem...

No but I checked very carefully for shorts and ran it with cardboard between the Mobo and the case walls...

    TBH I'm not that happy...

I don't like having to RMA things at all and now it looks like my monitor is screwed too...

When ever I set it so 1900 x 1200 res it zooms in and has to scroll to see everything (And yes Zoom on display options is set at 0&#37 Also, the component input is very picky about which inputs it wants to accept (i.e. no Wii but 360 works fine)

At least scan are paying my Courier fee's or I'd be pissed off totally right now...
