    P45 the way to go?

As mentioned previously, looking to upgrade from a AMD 64 (single core) system, to a Intel Core 2 Quad system.

Just noticed this board on ebuyer: Asus P5Q P45 (£80.57)

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/145750

Looks like a good buy to me....any reason not to go with it?

Just so your clear, P45 offers very little advantage over P35 and they cost a lot more.

For example this one @ http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=605524

Is a quality board for £13 cheaper...

Re: P45 the way to go?

I cant see much difference between X38/X48 and P45.
Well, the couple of differences i can see is the X38/X48 have 2 true PCI-E lanes at full speed. Does the P45?

Also, the FSB at 1600. Does the P45 offer that? I know the P35 doesnt (i dont even think the bios can be flashed to accomodate this can it?)

Personally, if i was buying a motherboard then i would just either get a P35 or an X38/X48. I just cant see what the P45 would offer extra.

Re: P45 the way to go?

    P45 has PCIE2.0 + 1600 FSB (can take 16Gb Ram too)

P35 has niether. (Can take 8 gig max)

No one will use either of those features anyway so it does seem kind of pointless...

Re: P45 the way to go?

ive got the Asus P5Q, so far it seems like a really good and stable board, P45 chipset seems cooler than the P35 as well (my gigabyte DS4 had much larger heatsinks but ran hotter which seems strange)
