IDF Stuff, I am going to post in here, so lets have some convo!

So today is the opening day of IDF for 2004 and I suspect we will see some interesting stuff. I know I will have some Alderwood and other DDR2 stuff for you guys later today.

Intels Keynote starts in 2 hours, I believe we will see a pattern which we have seen before with these.

I doubt that we will see formal 64bit extentions to the Ix86 platform - however Intel will annouce some degree of 64bit support. I do believe we will see some sort of incarnation of a chipset which will bring 64bit memory addressing to the workstation and low cost server market - Xeon. Whether just a new memory controller or total addons to instruction sets. If Intel do bring 64bit stuff, and they will drive the support. The recent Microsoft WinXP 64 operating system has some interesting file structures. AMD64, IA64, and another Product?

Tejas the desktop CPU I believe will come to the market with this, but it will be disabled until Intel need to play their trump card.

I also think we will see more on the digital home, and Intel will bring the Pentium-M combination - low power, low noise out for the 'space confined' PC. This makes a lot of sense to us, and to you - this is why Intel stated yesterday they want this new market segment.

Anyway I will file my formal report after the keynote, and I hope you look forward to it. We also are pretty confident with what we have said so far....

And one for the road, an secret 'person' confirmed that NVIDIA are launching the nForce5 solution to tie in with the Granstdale launch. He classed it as an 'important move for Intel and NVIDIA, since it will hurt sales of AMD products.....', '....NVIDIA have just as big following of their GPUs in the Chipset biz'. This will come to market with DDR2, PCIE. NVIDIA have sent out a formal press release about their PCIE cards over on the main page. We are trying to get shots as we speak.

nforce5??? doesnt 4 come first?

I normally have no interest in IDF but this year i have - we are all waiting on your reports Dave :) - they better be good :P

We have just spoken to NVIDIA they only have pictures of the low end card at the moment and none of the high end ones - this is rather strange?

ps will be interested in reading what you got about DDR2, looks like it's gonna be very expensive and not much benefit IMHO...just like the Intel EE's, hehe

Intel have just annocued the new Xeons - with the following features

- PCI-Express
- Faster FSB
- DDR2 Memory
- Power Management Technology
- 64 Bit Extensions
- SEE3 Instructions

The addressing extentions are present in the CPU. This CPU is launching next quarter - Nacona. So what you may say? Well it is in Prescott too.

We were right about some of it - but the cream was in the cake with it. However we are yet to confirm if this is an Inteltastic product, or if it is compatible A64.

hehe just realised Power Management Technology compresses down to PMT, someone really hasn't done their research at Intel :D

Update:
From the Q and A with Barrett at the end he re-iterated that they have the differnet micro-architecture within the core. But the software support will mean it will run on both. We believe that it will be a pure addressing thing. But until Intel release the part later this year we will not be able to establish if its the AMD instruction set which Intel have IP rights on. From what he said we believe this to be the case, meaning it runs the A64 Windows XP version...

The IPF software from Itanium of course will not run on this solution but lets be honest - that was kind of obvious.

Just to let you know at 2pm SF time - which is about 10pm your time - I will have meeting with AMD, we will see what they have to say.

We will also have a brief amount of coverage on the Digital Home from Intel, as well as our Keynote writeup.

This afternoon we will also go to the tech showcase which will allow me to release some hidden secrets :)

Right so you got another whack of content today - I have 2 more pieces to writeup as well as tommorows content - which will be a keynote, and probably a feature on PCI-Express.

I am having tonight off, no Intel, no work - I feel really ill.

Just woke up again; yes at stupid o-clock, got some new stories ready to go live for you guys; however I am going to take a few hours off.

It is like 5am here, and I am suffering from some sort of throat disorder :(

Last night was fun - managed to meetup with a good friend in the bay area for a chat, and went out for some dinner. I have overdosed on Intel and it was nice to escape.

Since the linkage in our IDF reports now carries one to here, I thought I would do a quick line to say thanks to Intel and "hey" to all of you for reading :)

Just had a round table with Intels CTO - Pat Gelsinger, most of the questions were pointess; however my question in regards to the wireless power possibilities came out with a pretty detailed reponse.

Basically it can be done; however it can have problems due to the induced power regulation. aka it would only be a trickle charge.

"IBM didn't see the need for 32bit in the PC system (and intel didn't see the need for 64bit in the PC. Schmucks)."

Quick tab - the thing which I found funny was the statement about the power source and the trickle charge - Pat said that it was his fantasy... I worry for his wife.
