    New PC Rebuild! :help:

    Hi everyone,

I had a thread asking for a motherboard/gfx card combo, but I've come to realise I need a lot more than that. I'm looking for a complete new system. Everything that goes in the case, including the case itself. I want to spend as little as possible but would like it to be able to play current new games on medium/high graphics settings.

I only have about £400 (paid in 2 weeks), but ideally wouldn't like to spend that much.

    Appreciate anyone for help,
    Steven

What can you re-use from your existing rig? Remind us what you want to use it for and the OS.

    Re: New PC Rebuild! :help:

    You could get the following

    Antec NSK3480 +380 earth watts PSU ~£55
    Asus M2A-VM ~£35
    AMD X2 5000+ (2.6GHz) ~£45
    2GB DDR2 ~£30
250GB Western Digital AAKS ~£35 Do you need this or the optical?
    Samsung Optical ~£15

That's £215. I run an almost identical PC and it's a great little thing (uATX). Antec make 2 full ATX versions of the case to.

If you want to use intel then you could get a pentium dual core for around £45 and a gigabyte P31 or basic P35 for around £50.

leaving the graphics up to you.

    ATi HD3850 ~£80
    Nvidia 9600GT ~£90
    Nvidia 8800GT ~£110
ATi HD4850 ~£120 (stunning new card from ATi)

    Re: New PC Rebuild! :help:

    Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3R - £70
    Intel E2180 - £45
    2Gb Corsair XMS2 PC6400 800Mhz - £30
    Gigabyte HD4850 - £130
    320Gb Seagate HDD - £35
    Coolermaster CM-690 - £50
    Seasonic S12II-430W - £45

Comes to £405 and should last you quite a while

EDIT: To save money you could use the Antec NSK3480 +380W PSU for £55(forgot about the Antec PSU case bundles...) which would bring the total down to £365

I mentioned it after (as a pentium dual core). The AMD saves a bit of money though and doesn't really need overclocking. Mine runs nicely enough

If you are willing to overclock though the intel probably makes more sense.

    Re: New PC Rebuild! :help:

    I was bored, lol

    (have i missed anything?)

    something like this

    u could pay a bit more for an 4850 (+ £20)
    or spend less for a 9600gt (- £20)

but u only have a 19" screen so u dont really need 4850, so a 9600gt should be fine, but i choose the 8800 cos it comes within budget ^^

    Re: New PC Rebuild! :help:

If he doesn't want to overclock the 5000+ is a nice chip at stock settings

The motherboard is a little bit cheaper to.

Intel offers a better upgrade path if you plan on upgrading again soon, but if you wait any longer than a year then that won't come to much anyway as you will probably want the new chips which will be on a new socket anyway.

I suppose... but for budget stuff, you do need to overclock to play the latest games anyway

    Re: New PC Rebuild! :help:

I'm not so sure. Anything above a 2.0GHz copes well in my experience. My e6600 is back at stock settings now and I don't notice a difference in any games.

Are you sure it's not your e-peen clouding your judgement?

    Re: New PC Rebuild! :help:

Thanks for the speedy replies guys. I'll compare everything in a second, but since starting the topic I decided to have a look myself and price some stuff. How does this sound?

    CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E4700 2.6GHz (800MHz) Socket 775 2MB L2 Cache OEM Processor - £75.99
    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L iP31 Socket 775 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard - £40.87
Hard Drive: Samsung SpinPoint HD501LJ 500GB SATAII Hard Drive 16MB Cache - OEM - £47.03
    Memory: DDR2 PC2-6400 (800) - £24.08
Case: Casecom LG-3360 Black Mid-Tower Windowed Case with Red LED and Red LED 12cm Front Fan - £18.99
    PSU - Extra Value 550W ATX Silent Neon PSU - 12cm Fan/PPFC - £21.99

    Total: 227.93

    That's without a graphics card.

Seems a good price for what I'm getting? Opinions please

    Naff PSU.

    This would be better
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130948
    or better still
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130949

If you like the case though go for something like an fsp 400W or a ocz stealthxtreme, usually quite cheap and decent.
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=468726
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/135159

Drop the CPU to a pentium dual core, you can get 2.4GHz for about £50

    Re: New PC Rebuild! :help:

dont get that cpu, get a E7200, much better and only £82 at scan today only...

dont get unbranded psu it will kill all other components if it dies...

dont get a crap case, will only make your life harder when you want to install/change anything.. the zen case mentioned above is cheap and very good for the money...

What's wrong with the processor I posted? I had a look at the E7200 - £82 on ebuyer as well, is it worth the extra money?

What about this case? Seems like a good deal!

    And graphics cards:

    Re: New PC Rebuild! :help:

Good card for the price yeah. Certainly enough for your screen.

The E7200 is a 45nm chip, one of the very new ones. Overclocks very well making it a bargain in that respect.

If you aren't overclocking though it will make little difference. I'd personally drop down to the the E2220.
