    Best AGP Card...

    Lo,

I'm looking for a good AGP card for an old PC.

Which is the best card out right now?

Can anyone link me to benchmarks with modern games? e.g. Gears of War or Halo 2

    Thanks.

How do you define best? What are the criteria for selection?

    Re: Best AGP Card...

Well the best I could find at Scan was this http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=796713 although it's out of stock. This was in but a lot more expensive http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=789615

May be able to find one in stock at the lower price level if you search around. Not sure that I'd spend £100 on an AGP card though.

    Re: Best AGP Card...

Best performance in current games i what I'm after.

I have this ****ty system which a family member wants to play all games that are out so far. Obviously not crysis and Medium GFX at a low res is fine for everything else.

Will the HD850 do the trick?

    Any benchmarks about?

Google didn't produce many trusted sites for me.

    Re: Best AGP Card...

3850 is at the bottom of the midrange (now that new cards are being released).

AGP cards now cost more than their PCI-E equivalent. There's no announced AGP card from the latest ATI GPUs, and NVidia don't have one from the last batch. AGP is close to dead.

IMO you're unlikely to get anything better than a 3850 ever.

    Re: Best AGP Card...

you might want to note the other pc components, its not all about about the grpahics card ya know

surely an old spec pc would bottleneck a 3850 ATi card?

    Re: Best AGP Card...

I had a Gainward Bliss 7800GS+ in one of my old AGP rigs and thing absolutely flew.

It played Oblivion at medium settings anyway

It was bloody expensive though. Especially to put in a rig just for the little 'uns.

Yes absolutely. It's a stonking card for AGP and will run pretty much any modern game very well, as long as you don't jack up the resolution/AA etc.

    Re: Best AGP Card...

The system is packing a AMD Athlon 2800+ and 2 Gig of RAM so I think I may give the HS 3850 a shot.

    Thanks guys.

    Re: Best AGP Card...

TBH its time you sell up and upgrade... any more money you pump into that system will become dead money and you are unlikely to get good resale value...

    Re: Best AGP Card...

I'm not looking for resale value.

I never sell any of my old systems, I run them into the ground then drive em down the tip ^^

It won't be worth jack even if I sold it now.
