    Use analogue speakers with computer

    Hello folks,
I have a nice set of old Wharfedale analogue speakers. I am wondering if it is possible to use them with my computer? They have red and black connectors at the back where cable is screwed into them to make the connection. Does anyone know if there are any converters I could be using please?
    Cheers,
    W

Re: Use analogue speakers with computer

im in a similar situation and what im going to do is connect the speakers to an amp (or an old dvd player that has built in amp)

and then run an optical audio cable from my pc to the amp..

    and voila..

Re: Use analogue speakers with computer

All speajkers are analogue! However most computer speakers are powered - in that they have an amplifier built in to boost the line out signal from the sound card. Your Wharfedales will be fine, but you will need to connect them via an ammplifier. If the amp has an spdif input (and the sound card a similar output) you can connect the two, otherwise take the analogue (line out) from the sound card and feed it to a normal input on the amp (tape or tuner)

Re: Use analogue speakers with computer

The only thing you need to watch, especially with older hi-fi speakers, is that they're unlikely to have good magnetic shielding and could interfere with a CRT monitor picture if too close. LCD monitors no problem.
