Is it possible to change the athlon 64 multiplier like on the XP chips?
No, I do not believe so.
Though don't take my word for it - I haven't tried to overclock one.

Anyone else know for sure? I'm 99% sure you can't but just want to check because it would be a great help. Otherwise is there any way to turn up the FSB without making it up the speed of everything? Or is there not really a negative effect of making it 'overclock' your other things like USB ports? I was worried about doing that because I have heard it causes problems. Any input?
Well if the way to overclock is only through fsb, then are there athlon 64 motherboards with asynchronous busses to avoid that problem?

Technically they dont have a multiplier since they dont have an FSB
u can only change the multiplier on the ATHLON FX-51 the athlon 64 multi's are supposed to be able to be lowered, altho on the MSI K8T Neo i havent seen it.

you can lower the multiplier, but you can't increase it unless you buy an A64 FX
what do you mean they don't ave an fsb, probably just being stupid, but how do they work otherwise?
Umm yeah no FSB? There is a setting in my BIOS as 200 which I can only assume is FSB. I can't remember how it is worded but I'm almost sure it is called the 'something bus speed'. I would go check but I must go to school. Also when I overclock my 9800 PRO with rage3D I can't go into my bios when I restart it's like it will not recognize my keyboard input until windows. Which doesn't make any sense because RAGE3D doesn't even start until windows. Any Ideas? When I get home I will try to get some more info about what it all says in the BIOS. Thanks everyone!!
I'm not 100% sure, but is it something to do with the FSB being the speed the chip talks to the northbridge or the cache (or something like that - don't flame me if I'm wrong) and it's all on the chip... so therefore they don't technically have FSB's?
I could be totally wrong on this though, but I'm sure I read something like that somewhere. If I find it, I'll change this. Or someone can just correct me!
FSB is the bus between the cpu and memory controller.
since the memory controller is built into an A64 chip, there is no FSB! lol
That's it! I knew it was something that was now on the CPU, but couldn't remember it and couldn't be bothered to Google at work!

so what exacly is being rasied when overclocking the cpu? im currently sat at 222Mhz what?

hypertransport bus (HTB), but some people have other names for it because strictly its not HT.
it is confusing alot of people because opteron work differently, it uses the memory bus with a variable cpu multi! so that it can always run in sync with the memory and increasing HT has no affect on cpu speed.
