    Heatsink & Fan for E2180

looking at this one, as have bought CPU on its own

Do they always come with thermal compound applied, or will I need to purchase some?

Re: Heatsink & Fan for E2180

Heatsinks often come with a supplied small tube of thermal paste but don't know about the lower end of the price range.

I would order a tube to be on the safe side as the supplied amount is usually only enough for two uses and if you need to re-seat the HSF more than twice you would need some

Does it need to be quiet, allow you to do heavy overclocks, anthing fancy really? Or just work...

Re: Heatsink & Fan for E2180

Want it to be quiet, this will be part of a first build and practice PC for Overclocking (never done before, only GPU). Once I have it built and running smoothly. Don't need it to look fancy, not going to put a window in the box or anything.

Plan to try 2.8-3.2ghz. Thought a cheapish one might be okay since its only a E2180 so doesn't have the same power draw as a Quad or a higher EXXXX series.

I'm not in the market for a Scythe Mine as this costs more than I paid for the processor! but would be willing to go up to the Artic Freezer Pro 7 sort of level if its really necessary.

ALSO what brand Thermal Compound would you reccomend?

    Thanks :-)

I would look at one of the exposed heatpipe ones from xigmatech... meant to have good performance and is very fairly priced...

thermal compound: I think MX2 is the latest "best one"

Well the freezer comes pre-applied with MX-2 I think it is which is very good.

I use Arctic Silver 5 still as I have lots of it lying around ..

The freezer is good until the fan spins up and then it is a noisey little thing. I think there is an Akasa similar to it which is supposed to be quite quiet though.

The Xigmatec one above is very good for the money but it is around £20..

Re: Heatsink & Fan for E2180

got an OCZ Vanquisher in the end as it was mid-priced, is supposed to be quiet and performs OK, comes with compound but brought some MX-2 anyway just in case

If you dont have any i would recomend getting some even if it pre applied as you may need to re-seat at some point
