OK - so maybe I want a new printer now!

I'm looking at a new printer now (thanks to a topic here on printers that reminded me of the fact that mine's a duffer.)

Anyway, what's the best in the way of repairs (ie inkheads are easy to replace) and consumable price (ie replacement stuff is cheap, and more importantly the cartridges are.)

I'd like one that has separate ink tanks for the colours.

Also, if you'd care to suggest one that has a network module in it I'd be greatful - though suggest a more modest model too.

I've been browsing the HP site and have seen some nice stuff, but I need more ideas.

Go for Canon, they are much cheaper than their competitors, and most of their new printers all take 3 seperate colour ink tanks (which means you only have to replace the one cartridge that has run out). I just bought myself the Canon i865 its a nifty piece of kit, it can print onto cd's and such (not sure if your into that kinda thing) and is also a photographic printer. Give the Canon site a look, you might be able to find something on there which might be of interest.

Hate to say it but Canon seem to be tops atm. Was a time their printers were absolute (insert favorite expletive here) - but they seem to have sorted out all their quality issues now, and the running costs are as cheap as chips.

official carts are horrendously expensive and the remanufactured ones invalidate your warranty with epson. Also should the print heads pack in then thats it, the printer becomes a large even more useless paperweight.

Canon printers can be fitted cheaply with new heads and the ink is as cheap as chips.

I wouldn't touch an epson with a large pole unless a thermic lance was affixed to the end of it.

I would suggest a nice little epson 1290s series printer - lovely... edge to edge printing, large tanks - not cheap - but occasionally inight and microwarehouse mis-advertise. I got it for my company for £80 (instead of £300)
I've just had to throw out my HP 3000 printer, as the memory was stuffed - cost more to repair than to replace - also a great little printer (but a bit big and bulky - also outside of your price bracket)
Personally - I'd just go for a disposable lexmark or epson printer, and replace the whole unit every year!

Canon, I have a very cheap Canon i320, very fast, decent photo quality, its not too shabby at all. At the time it cost £50 from ebuyer, its probably around £40 now.

But I'm sure you want something better, but get a Canon!

If you want an idea what the prints would be like, Canon have a test thing on their site where you upload a photo, they'll print it and post it out to you.

So... clearly they've come along a bit. I will look at a decent one that can print on CD's.
