Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R Sata ports
Anyone one know the difference between using the 2 Gigabyte SATA ports and the standard 6 SATA ports on this mobo? I believe they are all RAID enabled.

Re: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R Sata ports
6 are on the Intel ICH9R controller & 2 are on the JMicron/Gigabyte controller.
Re: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R Sata ports
Thats my point, whats the difference between using them? is the ICH9R limited to 6 or is the gigabyte controllers better?
Re: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R Sata ports
Not all that much - I think the only real use is so that you can have two seperate RAID arrays, e.g. you could have RAID 5 on the ICH9R, and RAID 0 on the JMicron controller.

Right, that seems to make sense.
Only stating out with 1 HDD & 1 Optical, think I will connect to the Southbridge
Re: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R Sata ports
I have a board near enough like this one. pretty much what Will said.
I'm also just using one HDD and Optical, connected to Southbridge.

Thanks HSK,
Just posted another question about the board maybe you can help with?
Do you need a PS2 keyboard to navigate the BIOS for the first time? I've heard that USB ins't auto enabled on the board. I only have USB ketboards and wanted to know if I needed to borrow a PS2 to change this setting.
thanks
