Athlon XP codes

Hi all.

Took my two computers apart at the weekend and cleaned everything. Also i noted down the cores.

XP 1700 (tbred B):

I have got this to about 2.1ghz-ish, not very stable. Is that about the limit for this chip?

XP 1800 (pally):
AX1800 DMT3C
AGOIA 0227SPEW

I know this isnt very good at clocking. Have got it to 1.75ghz which was nice Any more i can get out of it?

Those both seem resectable overclocks for those chips....you here people taking 1700's to 2.3 / 2.3 but they're quite rare. At the end of the day it depends on the cooling dunnit i take it you were fiddling with the voltage for those overclocks......

hey if thats what you get then thats what the chips will do.. I'm sure if you spent a load of money on cooling you could squeeze a little more out, but it wouldnt be worth it..

Just installed a 60gb hard drive, so thought i may as well clean everything/re-apply AS3. Then try and overclock a bit more.

Just done the graphics card (gf4 ti4200 Golden Sample) got to 303/621. Started to get minor errors at 310/648, which are pretty extreme speeds

I've just got my hands on a Barton XP2600. With my MSI KT600 board I find it falls over at 187 fsb, with everything else at Auto. Obviously I'm just getting into the techy thing and a mate who is a network engineer says don't touch the Vcore. Seems to me I need to, to put the fsb up any more. It does seem low for o/clocking an Atlon...Any thoughts? I think my cooling is fine.

Overclocking is individual to each chip, you cant say that all xp2600's will get to xp3200 speeds. Normally it is just a batch that is particularly good at overclocking.

Is the xp2600 multipler locked?
What RAM are you using?

If the xp2600 is not multipler locked then lower that to 9.5 or 10. Then increase the sync the fsb with teh ram (FSB:RAM = 1:1) and up the fsb as far as it will go. Once you get to a point where it doesnt boot or isnt stable put the voltage up a bit (that is through the RAM) then try and get it further.

If it is locked then you will just have to up the fsb and hope for the best. Once you get to a point that is unstable try upping the vcore. But dont go above 1.85v. If you are not seeing a large improvement dont bother, it will make very little real world difference.

blockers, barton cores are unlocked and the percentage of 2600 barton cores that do 3200 speeds means ud be very unlucky not to get one that does.

Nah, I guess for a newbie o/cer you need to do some learning before you start messing about with it. I won't bother explaining - there are articles out there that do it far better than I can in a couple of minutes forum posting.

Virtually all Athlons made after week 39 of 2003 are multiplier locked.

Thanks all for the comments. And Kez, you were right, techy mate was round and saw your comment and coughed to not being an o/c tech! Am going to follow your advice Will and slightly up the vcore, without unlocking the cpu. Bit beyond me at the moment! And it looks like post week 39.You seemed to seriously o/c your two Athlons. Think I can get a bit more from this yet. :-)
