Desperately need a new PSU so I can get rid of my Q-Tec 550W and I want to spend around 50 quid on a decent PSU, I have found one of these for 43 quid online plus postage, anyone got one or anyone got any makor problems or heard of any nightmares?
Its to power a P4 2.4, 1GB of RAM and 9800XT so this should be more than enough juice......
Any hints? I got an hour till the offer expire lol

I have the 420W (or is it 430W?) version sitting in my main pc. Veeery quiet. Can't really hear it at all, to be honest. Solid lines, good build, good value, blah blah.

ThermalTake are at the higher end of the "quality" pus scale, so its definitly £43 well spent m8.
Yeah - go with one, just got a Butterfly edition one for review (has LED cannons and PSU window). From what little Ive used it now, its good!
Another vote - using the 420w version and it's spot on - really nice piece of kit - never a hiccup and quiet as well without costing silly money
if you want to spend less, possibly for a better psu look at the CWT 450w at scan (£30). or the 550w which is quite a lot better for £60. cwt psus are exactly the same as antecs, the ones at scan are the cwt B series (antec solutions) except for the 550w which is A series, (antec truepower) - whichis why it cost more.
i havent used a thermaltake psu, but i dont think they would be as good.

The most expensive is not always the best. And as you can imagine, i wasn't to impressed after paying double the price of the TT.

Rails arnt whats important. Its the amount that they varie(sp?) with load that is. I had much higher rails with my 350w unbranded yet that was rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishe. using a 550w CWT I have never seen the rails varie atall, even with max laod on cpu and gfx the rails are the same. How much do the rails on yours change? what model have you got? what rails do you get, and moer importantly how much did it cost you?Quote:

-12v isnt important really - its not used by much, and its still within 5%. -5v i dont think is important atall, im unsure why its reading -5v at that.
please ignore vcore, vmem compleatly as they are regulated by the mobo. as you see, 3.3v is 110mV lower, 5v is 110mV lower, and 12v is 330mV lower than the multimeter readings. that is due to resistance in the mobo (thin traces, which zig-zag around, so they are quite long), the EPS12V->ATX converter i have to use - as nf7-s is a ATX mobo (psu is designed to be compatable with servers so it has EPS12V conenctor). also the connectors each give resistance, and the cabbles are very long (ATX is about 2 foot).
i recommend cwt psus because they are very high quality, and becuase they are cheap. most people wont need more than 450W ever so 550w is a bit high. CWT A series 550w for £60 at scan is very good imo. i recommend the B series 450w version because it should also be plenty, even though it is a lot more limited in output (combined rails, only 5% regulation and the other stuff its missing...) and becuase it is HALF the price.
also i might add that microdirect havent got a very good reputation at all and i will never use them again. id prefer to buy form ocuk tbh (which arnt nearly as bad in comparason).

the cwt has better regulation. seperate rails (the TT doesnt say). also higher rails, and less ripple on -5v (this doesnt really matter atalll). also the specs say that the CWT is more efficient.
i would be more likely to trust the specs of the cwt to be accurate as you can see from the site that they are not trying to *sell* the psu as much as TT are (MULTICOLOUR CABLES! SILVER SIDE BADGE! - im sure those two things will greatly affect peoples decision to buy it...).
the TT psus would sell more in PC World due to more unique selling points that would appeal to those who know nothing about psu's, not becuase they are any better.
so, imo the cwt is definatly better. prove me wrong :)
that said both are resonably cheap, and either TT 450w+ or CWT 450w+ should be fine for what you intend it for. theres no point in getting a psu less than 450w with the stupid prices atm.
ok then is it in my best interest in your opinions to spend and extra 5 quid or so to get it from either tekheads or overclock? They are the only other two that stock this part and to be honest I have decided to go for a Thermal Take over the CWT, the thremal take is a peak 550, sustained 480W psu....

peak means nothing, qtec 550w psus have a peak of about 550w, where as there sustained is about 300w. how long they can sustain peak is more important. im not sure if this is the right value so i will quote the sites:
"Hold up time: >20ms at full load, nominal line" - cwt
and the TT "Hold-up Time 16ms"
You can sit here all night and quote things off the site's of both makes, and explain things to me Ive been explaining to others on this forum since the beginning of time, but it still doesn't alter the fact that my TT is better than my Trueblue on my NF7-S. Period :)Quote:

If you don't believe me, fine. It don't bother me either way ! :). It makes zero difference to me as to what PSU somone buys at the end of the day. Ive got no reason to make bullrubbishrubbishrubbishrubbish up for a "This hardware is better because i own one" battle.
Maybe I'm just unlucky with this TB (and the one i sent back for just dieing :\ ). But for me, its 2-0 to TT.
I just bought a TT butterfly and from what ive read I am happy And all said and done it is nice to have a bit of bling in your machine
that was what i meant by proof... now i can understand why you think its better.. not that i care what you think... i still think the cwt is better.. not that you care what i think either... :D
what i said was quoted fact which i done so i could find out if the tt was any good, which it appears to be.. i wasnt saying it just becuase i own one..................
also true blue is crapper than the truepower, which is what the CWT A series are, so theres some differences, which might be why you had problems with yours..
