    Samsung F1 Platter density

    Hi,

Im about to buy either the 750GB or 1TB drives and the 750GB models are better value however im getting mixed messages on whether it has the same 333Gb platters as 1TB model.

CustomPC suggests it does but this article http://www.silentpcreview.com/article843-page1.html suggests that the 750GB model uses 250GB platters instead. Does anyone know any more info on this?

    Thanks, neil.

    Re: Samsung F1 Platter density

they're right the 1tb drives have the same platter density as the 320gb drives. they'll be quicker than the 750gb as they both have 3 platters, with the 750gb version having the lower density. you'll hear about the failure rates of 1tb i'm certain. but i've got the 1tb drive and all is good atm

I have a few 750GB F1's and their speed varies but is never quite as fast as the 320/640/1000GB models and some are quite a bit slower. I reckon they use the same platters but with varying sections shut off. If you want the most speed get one which uses the whole lot.
