    Re: parts for pc

Whats the 92mm fan for? I wouldn't bother with the coolermaster PSU, overpriced and nothing to write home about. Go for the corsair 620W HX or Enermax modu82+

I'd go for the Scythe Ninja rather than the Zipang or the thermalright ultra extreme

Go for the 640GB drive.. and a Western Digital would be my choice I'd take yate loon/nexus fans over the noctua's. Both equally quite when undervolted but the nexus are half the price.

I'd try and get the Abit X38 rather than the Asus, I hear the Asus isn't that great. In fact the X38 never seems to get a rave review but if you want the extra features it offers then I guess there isn't much choice.

TJ-07 is obviously a personal choice but I think you can probably get a case with better or equal air cooling for a quater of the price lol

    Re: parts for pc

    I'd change a few things:
    Motherboard - http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=828774 £120.56(incl VAT)
    PSU - http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=777991 £76.36(incl VAT)
Heatsink - http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=383006 £23.84(incl VAT) or if you want seriously good cooling the http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=676579 £32.89 (incl VAT) and then purchase a 120mm fan for it.

I prefer Gigabyte Boards... the PSU is definitely better quality and you shouldn't need more power tbh... and then the cooling recommended is tried and tested kit that works very well, not too sure about the quality and perormance of the cooler your looking at.

Other than those suggestions your spec looks good

    Re: parts for pc

i read a lot of reveiws and the aus boards seem to be fine, and i personaly dont see issues with them personaly. Also intell boards are much more stable than other boards, this why i went with intel x38.(also crossfire)

On the cooling issue i not sure about the loon/nexus fans , sinse looking at them, are they realy that quiet?? even when running games ect....cos i seen the noctua's and they seem very good in reveiws and work well in high quality rigs, still more info in this area be great

The zinpang a very good cpu cooler and il stick to it, sisne reveiws put it into top 5 queit/good coolers, the ultra 120 heatsink seems overkill and zinpang will do fine i think.

PSU wise, u sure coolmaster not good? i know corsair are good also but isnt it true they tend to die out after a short period, or sometimes you get "dead" PSUs??

640 harddrive a little overkill for me lol

il make some changes and repost.(i got silverstone tj107 sinse it wel,,bloody good, also it isnt extreamly large, like cosmos s or stacker,)

    Re: parts for pc

640GB uses 320GB platters which are the highest density so far, makes them a little quicker and not exactly a lot more money

The TRUE is cheaper though and is arguably the best air cooler out there, though it doesn't come with a good fan like the zipang. I prefer the way tower coolers work with the air flow rather than top down, some people like the opposite..

    http://www.silentpcreview.com/article695-page1.html
noctua comes out on top but I think spending over £50 on fans is a bit crazy, makes the case into a whopping £300, could build a half decent PC for that lol Nexus are what they actually use on reviews and their own builds so thats a good enough endorsment for me. Under the guise of yate loons they can be as cheap as £4.

Never heard of a corsair failing, they are seasonic and are most widely regarded as the best PSU for custom builds. I'd never trust a coolermaster PSU tbh. New ones to the market like the modu82+ and new dark powers are good but the corsair still gets my vote.

If you are worried about noise so much then get a water cooling kit... air cooling is always going to make some noise with all the fans blowing and water cooling is able to remain far more silent. Specially when spending £50 on silent fans, you can get a basic water cooling kit for that much which not only would work better but be quieter.

Coolermaster are good, cousin has used them for years and various other friends as well so I don't see them as a problem tbh its just that the Enermax is better both in efficiency and noise levels. Quality of components is better as well so should last longer and is less likely to break.

    Re: parts for pc

I don't think a £50 water cooling kit will be that effective or quiet will it? Still needs fans to.

less fans isn't a bad Idea. If you really want a quiet PC with decent cooling then get a P182 or antec solo, they will be great for noise and not bad for cooling either

I'd be sick if I spent my own money on a TJ-07

Coolermaster are still a good PSU make if you dont want to spend that extra £50 for the enermax.

    Re: parts for pc

Speaking as someone who is in the process of modding a case and setting up a water cooling loop if you want decent water cooling it is going to cost you ~£200 unless you get a lot of stuff off fleabay, the cheaper kits while doing a passable job will not out perform a decent air cooler which will cost half the price.

While I am a fan of Silverstone cases (I have TJ-08 atm and modding a TJ-06 for my Watercooling case) the TJ-07 is a touch expensive you could put in a decent water cooling set up in a P182 for the same money as the TJ-07 and CPU Cooler.

And if you look on Scan you can probably save yourself about £50 on what you have already specced and you can get free postage so no need to worry if you need to order some bits from elsewhere.

    CPU £115 save £7
    Memory Corsair Dominator 1066 C5 2x2GB £80 save £2
MB £125 Save £4 (not in stock but Abit is available for same money)
    HDD £45 Save £2
    Fan Controller Save £2
    TJ-07 Black with Window £223 Save £19
Graphics could save up to £28 if it was in stock
Noctua Fans Save £2 on each one

Plus savings on the other stuff but I got bored of looking

well that ur veiw personaly id be sick if i got a astec 900 case.....

anyhow, fan wise i trying to get best air cooling i can get, and thus dont want to skip on budget fans, as reveiws show these ones are one of the best and queitest.

watercooling too exspencive to get a good set-up, and anyone who thinks getting a watercooling set-up for less than 250 is just plain mad......

il look into scan sinse it does seem cheaper

(though these forums have a lot of scan staff on so....)

Sorry Mike but had to respond to this statement.

    1. Are you sure you have never heard of a Corsair PSU failing??? They fail as much, or are as likely to fail as much as most other electronics units.

    2. They arent widely regarded as the best units for custom builds either.
I would say that i think you mean 'they are one of the best value' (which i would agree with). But the best? They definitely arent.

New ones to the market like the modu82+ and new dark powers are good but the corsair still gets my vote.
The modu82+ is actually getting THE BEST reviews i have seen for a few years in the PSU stakes.

I would buy a Corsair 520 ONLY if i was on a tight budget.

    My first HX520 failed
Took out my 939 mobo and Socket A one with it.
Certainly not the best, and when will they start braiding those cables...

    shipping ect.: £21.50
VAT is being charged at 17.5% VAT :
    Total : £1,236.48
Spec the price with Scan or Ebuyer.
Unless its a last resort, i wouldnt spend hard earned (especially not a grand) with OCUK AND pay shipping.

With Scan that shipping would be free.

    Re: parts for pc

    Sorry...i couldnt help myself.
I have re-specced your system VERY slighty and here is what i came up with.

Most of the parts are the same. There are only 2 minor changes.

All of this is from Scan and icludes VAT (only just touching £900 delivered.:

    Thats a HUGE saving.
If you are a member here you get Scan free delivery so mine is under £900 delivered.

Yes I have never heard of them failing, I'm sure they have but I've not heard of it, certainly less than enermax horror stories anyway. I'm sure a quick browse through the corsair care forum would enlighten me, but then they do have one, so it's not a fair comparison with enermax who don't.

    2. They arent widely regarded as the best units for custom builds either.
I would say that i think you mean 'they are one of the best value' (which i would agree with). But the best? They definitely arent.

The modu82+ is actually getting THE BEST reviews i have seen for a few years in the PSU stakes.

    http://forums.hexus.net/1458658-post398.html

I would buy a Corsair 520 ONLY if i was on a tight budget.
As you know I do agree that the new enermax are great and have read the gleaming reviews, but given that the bulk of people here seem to have corsair PSU's and are very happy with them it only makes sense to still recommend them on most budgets. Over time the enermax will most likely prove the better purchase but right now i'd take the corsair given their reliablity and quality in my own experience (and seasonic before them).

As clunk always mentions when he is around, 2 or 3 of his enermax PSU's failed and it's his corsair that kept him going

In all fairness I think they are the most widely regarded as best though, not best necerssarily, but most widely regarded as most people are comfortable recommending them based on their own expereinces which tend to be very good, I'm sure with which you agree.

Have to agree though, it was a rather poorly worden statement. Seasonic and thus corsair are very much one of the most highly regarded PSU manafacturers, and the HX series can barely be lifted due to the amount of review awards that have been slapped on it.

The Modu82+ (which I recommended anyway because I never hear the end of it if I don't ) is probably the current best PSU and even if it does fail isn't likely to cause big problems. It;s both more efficent and quieter, but.. my money is still with the corsair/seasonic until they fail me or they get terrible reviews

Yeah but those were a different series, different technology and components. Its like 2 different PSU's basically. The new series has proved itself an excellent performer and until masses of people come out saying its failed I'd still recommend the Enermax MODU82+ over all others
