Selling Parts Of PC - Price Check
I've just bought the following:
Quote:
The case is the Antec P182 - in gun metal grey, i think along with many on the net this is the best functioning case for the money and looks to die for - remember don't be fooled
by flashing light's!.
Graphics card is the HIS Ati Radeon HD 3870 XT ICEQ3 512mb GDDR4 has tv out, hdmi etc - i chose this as i watch blu ray and hd video on my pc and this handles it superbly
even playing back on my 1080i tv it is just spot on as it has hardware decoding - this card also handles lots of the latest games with ease.
Memory is 4gb of crucial Ballistix DDR2 PC2-8500c5 1066Mhz - chosen as it his very reliable and very quick indeed, if you feel the need i understand this is very good to overclock.
Pioneer DVR-215 dvd drive which is just stunning and has never produced any duff disc's and writes very quickly latest firmware installed.
Motherboard is the Abit IP35 Pro (Socket 775), read any reviews of this board and you will find how stable this beast is! never missed a beat for me.
Processor is Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - i love AMD processors, but had to go to the dark side on the quad core
as this just rocks.
Power supply is the Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular - again don't be fooled by flashy fans with neon's on! the power supply is so often overlooked this is as the only
power supply i have used in my last few pc's and they are just cool & quiet..oh and solid as hell.
Hard drive is Western Digital WD5000AAKS 500GB SATA II 7200RPM 16MB Cache - very nice quick and quiet drive.
Cpu cooling is handled by a massive...and i mean massive Ninja-PLUS Rev B Heatpipe Cooler - this thing is the bees knees no cooling issues at all!!.
Obviously from Ebay but I have realised that I have no need for a PC for the next 3 months or so, so was thinking of selling everything except the case and PSU which I will keep as those parts I doubt will change value by a huge amount in the next few months. But I guess the rest will devalue by quite a bit.
However the RAM, GPU, CPU and HD can probably go. Maybe motherboard depending on value. I have no idea as I haven't traded in components for some time.
If anyone would be kind enough to put some prices on the components above, it would be very helpful and a for sale thread will be put up soon!
Re: Selling Parts Of PC - Price Check
if you come back in 3 months asking for a spec check I'm going to suggest you buy all of those components (bar the gfx card) again :p
Nothing worth buying will be out in the next 3 months. The 640GB AAKS would have been nice but the difference will not be massive.
I'd sell the HD3870 for around £95 and be done with it. The HD4850 means that it won't pull a premium anymore and you may even have to settle for less.
Re: Selling Parts Of PC - Price Check
What staffsMike said :)
Those components are more than likely going to be what we recommend in a few months still so stick with them. TBH I'd be interested in purchasing the Q6600 as I have been looking for one for some time now but putting aside what I want your best option would be to just keep the system. The new ATI crads are great specially with the HDMI output so that might be something to look as an upgrade in the future otherwise just keep it :D

Even the IP35 Pro?
Move a little with it at least fella. They are at least 4 generations of chipset old now. If you want as cheaper board the the IP35's are still decent. If you want to go higher (like the Pro) then why buy something that is old now.
Re: Selling Parts Of PC - Price Check
agree with mike 100%, just the gfx and hard drive would have to go for me and out of rest of the components only mobo MAYBE will devalue so MAYBE i would let that one go as well, but not so sure

Because who would want to upgrade on S775 if they already have the most worthwhile processor it has to offer? The PRO and Q6600 is a prefectly good setup for the forseeable future. The next likely upgrade will be nahlem..
Why sell the PRO ( at a loss no doubt) and then waste more money on another board which does the same job?
I know you like X38 and have justified it for yourself but it doesn't really offer anything worthwhile at this point unless you are desperate to crossfire a couple of cards which is in itself a bit of a waste of time given the power of the new single GPU solutions.
Re: Selling Parts Of PC - Price Check
Basically, you wont have much to gain from upgrading, but when you do, sont buy a P35 as its generations old. Things are moving quite fast. :)

Mike...read my post.
I agree totally that there is no reason to upgrade. I already stated that.
Where i dont agree is that you said 'if you asked in 3 months time you would still recommend the IP35Pro'. Thats not good advice :)
BTW....Yes i do like the X38. If i was changing my board tomorrow though i DEFINITELY wouldnt buy another one. In the same vein, i wouldnt buy a P35 Chipset board either. They are 'old hat' now and £100 for an old generation motherboard is simply not good value.
If i was upgrading tomorrow i would buy an X48. SImple fact is, if im spending, i dont want to compromise on it.

Into a dead end.. :p
True if he were buying new in 3 months I would most likely suggest the P45 once all the boards are in and prices have settled but it still doesn't offer any useful features over P35, of which he has arguably the best board so he may as well keep it.
Re: Selling Parts Of PC - Price Check
Hmm, so would anyone be able to make any rough valuations on price, I'd be happy for the 3870 to go at £95, is an XT better or worse than standard?
Re: Selling Parts Of PC - Price Check
XT is the standard as far as I know. 3850pro, 3870 XT as I understand it.
Like I said you will probably have to go lower now but you might be lucky if it's still in the box etc..

I doubt you would get that for a 3870.
Maybe around £70-80 dependant on where you sell it though.
Or try and get someone not clued up in Ebay. I sold a 8800GTS 320mb on there 6 months back and got £140 for it :p .... in reality, it was probably worth £100 tops.
Re: Selling Parts Of PC - Price Check
I thought the 'XT' on 3870 was just OCUk trying to make them sound fancier?
As mentioned the 4850s will kill the price of the card so if you're going to sell sell now to maximise your return on it.
