Gaming headphone help

    Hey guys,
I'm looking to buy new gaming headphones. I have £30 to spend but I'd really like them to cost around the £20-25 mark.

I'll be buying from scan so don't tempt me by linking to headphones off different sites.

A good quality mic is a must and sound quality must also be high. Is the 5.1 surround sound inn headphones worth it?

I was thinking about maybe this. But don't have a clue why.

    Suggestions?

From what I can see on the Scan site. I think the Creative Fatal1ty are the best of the lit and its a decent price.

Any other suggestions guys? Anybody have a decent pair of headphones that they'd definitely recommend?

    Re: Gaming headphone help

wouldn't recommend creative fatality definetly, remember a review somewhere where they didn't even make the middle of the bunch, there was athread here somewhere almost everyone agreed that Sennheiser PC 166 usb were one one of the best, but they are probably a bit out of your price range it's still decent company for sound products so try amybe some of their lower class ones

You can get a set of Plantronics .Audio 650 USB for <£30 - i.e. £27.72 (delivered) from Amazon

I can personally vouch for the quality of Plantronics headsets
I've had/used a set of their old DSP 500's for over 5 years now

    Re: Gaming headphone help

Sennheisser all the way for me. Excellent quality.

Also, I would stay well clear of USB headsets unless there is some overwhelming reason to go with USB, the sound quality on them is normally far below the equivalent-priced non-USB variant.

    Re: Gaming headphone help

    Thanks guys.

Does anybody know is these: http://scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=819122 have a mic. I can't find many decent Sennheisser pairs with a mic at around my budget

Is the creative fatality a USB headset?

@TheReaFireblade. Thanks but they don't look very good, not my style. I'm looking for the big ones that go around your ear

Doesn't look like it has the mic. See HERE for the full range

On another note, I've been using 5.1 headphones for a few years now. I've owned 3 different ones (I love my movies )

The first pair I had were the Trust 751B. They are amazing. I've had two pairs but both have lost one or more of the speakers so now I don't have full 5.1 channels. I can still use them in 2.1 or a jig of the cable I can use them in 51 (but too much trouble) These have fantastic bass and clarity of the treble/midrange. These are comfortable and light. This needs to be connected to a mini amp though but can have speakers connected to switch between them. Definitely the best of the bunch by miles.

The second pair I had and currently using most is the Zalman ZM-RS6F. They are good but lack the bass of the Trust (these are in fact only 5.0 )
However, they are still a decent pair of headphones for the money although after a while they do tend to 'squeeze' the head a little. These had 3.5" x3 jacks.

The last pair I bought but used least are the Sharkoon Cosmic 5.1. Power is needed and plugged into the volume unit dangling off the main cord. Not used enough to comment fully.

The main thing you probably want to know is whether 5.1 actually works. Well, it's definitely not cinema sound. On some sources the sound can be very good but due to the speakers being so close to the ear its very hard most of the time to distinguish the full 5.1 channels. I tend to use mine for movies more than gaming, but they are all fantastic in games.

NO, they have the green and pink jacks.

Also, the Fatal1ty are cheaper at Play (£17.99 delivered)

Another headset option might be the SteelSeries SteelSound 4H Gaming Headset at £29.99. They seem to be highly rated (no less than 15 awards! )
