Problem with Auzentech Prelude

Hi guys I've been using this card for a while now and love it. I have Dolby digital live enables which means it uses my full 5.1 setup during music etc and its great.

However today i get no sound at all useless i disable the dolby digital live option. Now I've been using this feature for ages with no problems. Why won't it work now?

Driver problem? Try re-installing them. (as for why its happened....)

Yea reinstalling them now. My amp isnt picking up any PCM signal when dobly digital live is enabled. So hopefully this fixes it or i wont be amused!

not working. I am not amused lol. How something can work fine the night before and then suddenly just refuse to work baffles me.

Ok i just reinstalled windows and still no luck! I don't know what the hell is going on here. If it keeps pissing about im going to sell it and get a Asus Xonar

im suspecting a problem on your amp now..

check the cables are plugged in around the back..

if the amp is like mine theres a toggle button to switch between analogue and digital input.. if you have one - check that..

your amp is on the right 'input selection' isn't it?

I was going to suggest the same thing.... Are you using a fibre connection between the sound card and the amp, or is it a coax/SPdif connector? If it is optical, is there an output from the card? (if you look at the end of the fibre, is it illuminated?)

Otherwise the only way to tell if there is an aoutput is to use an oscilloscope and check for tyhe digital signal that way, or use another amplifier.

Similarly, the only way to check the amp is with a known good sound card.

HI guys, the amp is fine. Its connected via optical SPdif connector. When i enable dolby digital live on the console i get no sound on the amp and pcm signal goes on and off meaning it isnt receiving any signal. Yet when i disable the option the sound works fine and the pcm name stays on the amp.

Note that when i disable dolby digital on the soundcards audio console that it is still using the same input and cable. The only difference is that the dolby digital option is disabled. If it was the amp then i would get no sound regardless of the settings in the soundcard console.

The amp is an Onkyo 605

OK - Understand the setup - but not much idea of where to take it...

You have re-installed the drivers - re-installed the OS... the only other option is configuration - or the card has developed a fault.

Yes ive also checked configuration but nothing has changed on the amp. its all kind of automatic really. Im starting to think of a fault myself but im still waiting on Auzentechs response. They dont even have a phone number to ring. its all done by email so god knows how long i will have to wait for a reply.

Have you got another SPDIF cable you can try?
Not got any pets that have a habit of biting things do you? - I've experienced this before

As Peterb said - do you get light out of the end of the cable?
Tried a different PCI slot on the off chance its the mobo?

Running outa ideas now....

Yes agent light is coming from it. Like ive said i get sound from the same lead fine as long as i have dolby digtal disabled. But when i enable it, it gives me no sound. But light still comes from it. Which makes me think its the card.

If it was the lead then it wouldnt work at all. But it does. Just not when that option is enabled. Which i should say has been working fine for months now since i got the card!

Could it be the montherboard? I mean if it was wouldnt the card just not work at all? Rather than one option?

A am honestly at a loss to what it is

OK guys this got fixed by putting the lead into a different optical socket on the amp

So does this mean that the amp is broke? I mean i can get sound from that optical connection, just not dolby digital live :S

Also on another note, now when i play .x264 files the sound will cut out after maybe 30 mins or so. And i will have to go into console mamnager and switch from audio creation mode to game mode and then back and the sound will work again fine. is this the codecs or the amp or the soundcard/drivers?
