Two full builds in one case?

Someone has just asked me if there is anything on the market to do this at the moment and honestly I have no Idea

It needs to be fairly compact (look like a normal tower I take that to mean), obviously have space for 2 PSU's and mobo's, Doesn't matter what size the mobo's are though uATX, ATX ..BTX if you must.

I don't really need to know the alternative's and bodge jobs (mods) won't be appriciated by them

    Any Idea's on a case?

Re: Two full builds in one case?

Never heard of anything that would hold 2 full builds in one case, especially in a normal tower. It would surely have to be a one off custom job.

You'd be better off having 2 uATx cases on top of each other - that wouldn't be far off the size of a full tower.

I told them that, you don't know these hard headed ********, they always think there is a way lol

They actually build their own cases usually so they will probably end up doing that, just wanted to save themselves some time.

Won't that cause it to get reallly hot inside, if both computers are running at once...

    Hmmmm, you could probably try and mod this case to fit them;

Re: Two full builds in one case?

with a big case and on board video, and low profile cpu coolers... with some customisation you should be able to attach a mobo to the door of a case too...

Re: Two full builds in one case?

I'd already considered that but there is the problem of mounting the second motherboard and giving full access to the i/o ports AND it will need an i/o sheild as there can't be too much electrical noise leaking out lol

They are a pain in the back side

I'll tell them I'd build a couple of uATX's and bolt them together if need be or they can do it themselve's, although I do have time to sort something like that out at the momentI don't think they will go for it and I can't bet bothered anyway

I'd quite like to get my hands on a couple of those NSK 2480's, but cube's might be interesting too.

Re: Two full builds in one case?

I'm sure you could fit a mini-itx (one of the new Intel Atoms?) inside a nice Lian-Li V2xxx series or a PC-A97. Two PSU locations.

I remember some people putting a mini-itx inside a 5.25" bay. Just get one of those Y-cables which sends the poweron signal to two PSUs.

Re: Two full builds in one case?

Something to think about, but mini-itx might be lacking in the flexability they need and can get a bit pricey.. Thanks though.

Re: Two full builds in one case?

I did manage to fit two full systems inside an old server case once, it was about the same size as a normal ATX case but about 2" wider. I installed a second motherboard tray and flipped it around so both motherboards faced each other with both motherboards running off one PSU. Here is a pretty good guide on using one PSU with two motherboards.

It was a good idea at first to have a firewall and server in the same box, but the whole system was a real PITA to upgrade and maintain with both sides of the case blocked.

Using 2 NSK 2480's on top of ech other may be a problem as the bottom of the cases are have grills for airflow into the HDD enclosure so the top one might get a bit hot if this was sealed
