It is done... my new machine :-)

Well, I've finally pulled the trigger and purchased most of my new PC, very excited!

    Here's what I've gone for:

Abit iX38 Quad-GT (wanted ability to go Crossfire at a later date)
    Intel Q6600
    4GB Corsair TwinX DDR2 PC2-8500 (probably overkill...)
300GB VelociRaptor (couldn't resist it... definitely overkill!! I'll be adding in storage hard drive as well, just waiting on the new Black Caviars to become available...)
    Sapphire HD 4870
650W Be Quiet Dark Power PRO (never hurts to have a little in reserve, right? thinking about it, will this be enough for two HD 4870's in Crossfire?? )
Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit OEM

All will find a happy (and if I may say so, rather stylish) home in my recently purchased Cosmos S, excellent!

I haven't chosen a CPU cooler yet... still trying to decide if I'll jump straight into watercooling... though there's another couple of hundred squid to spend... my wife may just kill me

What's the absolute best air-cooler out there at the minute? I know the Thermalright Ultra-120 has been the number 1 choice for ages, but are there any newcomers that've taken it's throne?

    cheers

Have you seen the new glossy black version? Could well make you place your pc sideways with the side panel open

    I've just bought this:
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=800509
for a similar machine. Currently keeping my q6600 under 58 during orthos full load on two cores at 3.159ghz

Plus its copper. Planning to sell it in 5 years time for scrap and buy new pc with proceeds. Invest wisely, my son!

Ha ha, that's funny Hope it turns out to be a wise investment for you

I might go with the Noctua NH-U12P... probably add in a second NF-P12 fan as this seems to make a 3-4C difference and pushes it ahead of the TRUE...

Watercooling is looking like too much to justify for the moment... maybe next year

    Cheers

u should consider the xigmatek hdt s1283. Mine keeps my q6600 @ 48 C, with 4 instances of prime 95 and an overlock of 3ghz, plus, its only £20!!
