    New Build

Following on from my Cheap PC until Nehalem thread, this is what I have got:
    Asus P5K Premium
    Intel Core 2 Duo E7200
    2GB Geil Black Dragon PC2-6400 4-4-4-12 DDR2 Ram
    3 x 320gb Samsung HD322HJ, single platter in Raid 0
    PNY 9800 GTX
    Xclio 480W PSU
Antec 1200 case (all fans on lowest speed).

Stock cooler at the moment until I can get to my scythe infinity

    Idle screenshots:

    Loaded screenshots:

Cores fluctuates between 58-60C when on full load. Not bad for stock cooling.
GPU fluctuates between 64-65C. Used to hit 70-71C in my Sonata!

    3D Mark 06:

DMC 4 benchmark. No MSAA, super high detail:

    HDTach long test:

    HDTach short test:

I am very impressed with cooling ability and cable management of Antec 1200. Worth every penny. The fans never need to go above lowest speed.

CPU usage is high in HDTach. Not sure if this is a bug in Vista x64 as its not fully compatible...

I think I can call my epeen slightly bigger than average now

Just realised RAM is in single channel!! Doh Will have to repeat some tests. At least then we can see how much difference dual channel makes

    Comments and post-setup suggestions please

    Re: New Build

Well it depends which Nehalem boards/cpus come out... I am not going to get the extreme/expensive stuff that usually comes out first...

This system seems very speedy to me and I haven't overclocked it yet! Haven't played any games yet but the DMC 4 benchmark indicates that this will probably be good for a little while (except for Crysis).

Does anyone have some dual core 3d marks for comparison?

    Re: New Build

Um I have one but its overclocked so might not be any help for comparison. Here it is anyway:

    FSB is at 1944Mhz
    CPU listed in the pic
GPU is at 800Mhz(up from 650Mhz)
Graphics memory is at 2000Mhz(up from 1940Mhz)

Cool, so mine is approximately correct. I guess I should get about 15000 if I overclock...

The Xclio is a pimping PSU. Forget Corsair/Enermax... This has coped with everything I have thrown at it.

I believed you! Although, I wouldn't want to use this with the 9800gtx and a quad as that might be stretching it a bit...

    Re: New Build

Does the 9800GTX use 2x6pin connectors then?

I'm trying to work out if I can use a 4870 on mine - I've only got a PCI-E 1.0a slot so it won't be taking too much power through that.

You don't happen to know if the PSU splits rails as
    12v1: PCI-E, molex, motherboard
    12v2: CPU

    Or
    12v1: molex, motherboard
    12v2: CPU, PCI-E

    do you?

    Re: New Build

    yes 9800gtx uses 2 x 6 pin pci-e connectors

oh yes SiM, use p95. It tests the CPU more and finds the highest temps.

Sim, isn't that 3D Mark score a bit low for your system? I got almost 11K with my machine:

    I thought Orthos was just a front-end for p95?

CPU is benched too with 3d mark... Personally I think that is silly because my system (at stock) will be a fair amount faster than yours in games, but we get about the same amount of 3d marks

Maybe I will get another 500 or so points now that I have moved the ram into the correct slots and I am now using dual channel...

when running 2x orthos the temps are a bit lower on here than p95. But well it's not compulsary
