Just my 2p as well; I'm running a 22" and I'm still on the original 8800 320mb and still runs everything I throw at it very nicely except for maxed out crysis obviously lol. I can't see games pushing the capabilities of current graphics cards excessively at the minute, the hardware has consistently been improving faster than the software community needs as far as I can see. Whereas before you needed a new graphics card every time the new 'big game' came out now you can just keep going... and going... and going...

If you go intel you seriously must have a look at MSI P35 Neo2-FR iP35, I have run this board with a 4300@3.2 and now a quad 6600@3.4/4 sticks of ram, rock solid performer, check out the anandtech review

For AMD, you have got to have a look at the Biostar boards, outstanding performers at great prices
Biostar TA770 A2+ £49

Biostar TF8200 A2+ £51

I also run this board with my BE5000@3.2 powering 3 monitors, one from onboard vga, another solid performer from Biostar. You may also consider holding off until later this month as the new AMD chipsets are supposed to be out/released, there is also a AMD price drop on the way
Yep my GTS still holds up nicely with all the games I use so I wouldn't be worried about getting the HD4850. I actually wrote that before I noticed what screen he was getting, but it still sort of worked lol Given the performance you get for a mere £120 the HD4850 makes the most sense for me, but other people will find sense in the HD4870 like I said, if you plan on keeping it for a long time then it may work to your advantage but it's always a gamble either way
