    Advice on first newbuild pc

First off sorry if posted in wrong section:

I have a major problem on making decisions so kind of asking for your recommendation on a specification.

What parts I already have at home or on the way:

Antec Sonata iii case with psu
    512mb powercolor HD3850 graphics card
    Creative gigaworks T40 speakers
X-Fi Platinum Fatal1ty Champion soundcard (hopefully in the post now.)
    Logitech MX™ Revolution mouse
4 external buffalo 500gb hard drives

    What I can't decide on:
Intel or Amd - had a p4 now on AMD athlon 64x2 4800+ dual core so anything above would be fine.
    Motherboard
    Memory - 4gb or above
    Win xp or Vista
    couple of internal hd

Don't really have a budget in mind but would like value for money. Something reliable and longlasting.
The PC will mainly be used for graphic/photography/art work, watching dvds and online movies/tv dramas/music etc, the odd game or too, office software/internet usage

Intel Q6600 witha decent cooler like the scythe mine or ninja (or xigmatec tower or thermalright ultra 120 extreme .. and so on lol)

Motherboard, Abit IP-35 PRO would still get my money, maybe the DFI IP-35 if you want to save £10. There is the P45 chipset but it doesn't add enough or get good enough reviews for my money tbh.

memory.. 4GB PC6400, corsair, geil, crucial, ocz.. anything branded will do. OCUK have good deals on Kingston at the moment.

    Vista 64bit

I'll only buy western digital and the new 640GB AAKS are good value, quiet, cool and amongst teh fastest out there

Thanks StaffsMike for the advice. I've never used western digital internal drives for some reason I've always used Maxtor so it might be time to change.

I'm too tired to do research/browsing tonight on everything but just want to check that its Western Digital 640GB 3,5" WD Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS SATA2 7200rpm 16MB that you have recommended around the £60 mark - which really does seem like great value for money - if thats the one.

I think I will go for intel route, just cos it seems they got alot of good reviews and I haven't heard much from the AMD side to impress me yet.

Yep memory will either be corsair or Kingston (maybe cos I like the look of their heat speaders lol - I'm female what you expect! but saying that I have heard good things about ocz)

Re: Advice on first newbuild pc

RAM is all much of a muchness really. I personally use Geil where I can but I have too corsair and they do have a very good reputation. I've used a lot of kinston laptop RAM and my old company used them in their industrial builds which is a good enough recommendation for me

That is the right drive yeah. I personally have had a lot of trouble with maxtor and seagate over the years, samsung I might try at some point but they do seem to have had a few recent faliures just from people on hexus which puts me off.
WD have been consistantly great for me over the years

I would love to recommend AMD to you as I still am a bit of a fanboi at heart but it's just wouldn't be fair to They cost too much (the phenoms that is) and barely overclock which the Q6600 generally does in it's sleep.
