    Question laptops

Im looking for a new laptop for use in 6th form. Looking for a cheap but ok looking laptop, specs dont need to be amazing but battery life is important, a 15" display is perfect size and im not really fussy about make, are the dell studo 15 any good?. Anything under £500 id consider so if people could provide sugesttions of a reliable durable laptop that would be great .

    Thanks.

    Re: laptops

Studio was going to be my first suggestion

It's an awesome laptop, battery life won't be amazing but it does have a half decent dedicated graphics card so you can have a swift game if you want

The vostro 1510 is a more rugged businessy type laptop, battery life might be a bit better but the plastics used aren't that ncie from the reviews I've read.

You don't save much over the studio with the inspiron 1525, but you will get better battery life due to the integrated graphics.

    Re: laptops

Wow mike, always on the ball aye?. I will look into th studio ones further but just got my hd-dvd drive working so , gaming isnt really a big deal as this rig is for it and to be honest id rather have no option of gaming as it would stop distractions lol.

    Thanks.

    Re: laptops

Centrino 2 being realeased today means you might start finding the prices dropping a fair bit on older C2D's so keep an eye out.

Also AMD Puma laptops will be starting to filter through soon, although the only one ive seen a review for so far is an HP *spits*.
It has the best integrated graphics solution of anything we have seen yet. Still seems to eat at the battery though

    Re: laptops

HP make some cracking, solid laptops. Other than the almost standard abundance of included software (easy enough to remove), they are pretty much the opposite of their desktop PCs.

Value wise, it's difficult to find decent ones, but Misco are/were an official supplier for HP, and have had some excellent deals in the past (Core Duo laptop for £300 with 1GB RAM, about £100 cheaper than anyone else at the time), which are still going strong here, but you're playing a waiting game looking out for such bargains in the laptop world.

Even Dell are inching up the prices, and the Vostros aren't as attractive now as they were.

Commonly recommended at the moment are Dell XPS M1530s, which seemed to have plenty of codes and bargains on them this time last month. Unfortunately I had to buy mine from Overclockers (only place I could find them at the time, as we can't order from Dell without a minimum £5,000 order). The 9-cell battery in these are excellent, as they lift the bottom of it up off your lap, so you don't end up getting roasted. Highly recommended if you can find some codes or they have a deal on.
