    Intel Centrino 2 launches Monday

That means price crashes on old stuff! A link:

With Puma on the way too, the next couple months will be interesting.

Re: Intel Centrino 2 launches Monday

The one thing I'm worried about with PUMA is I'm yet to see it return a really decent battery life in a review. It's somewhere in the region of a normal discrete graphics solution which is a shame. Hopefully things will turn around though because in theory it's a fantastic platform

Centrino 2 is easily going to have the CPU advantage though, but we knew that already.

Re: Intel Centrino 2 launches Monday

I'm a bit confused with all this laptop stuff, I've never looked into laptops before but my girlfriend is wanting to get one in August.

It says that "Centrino 2 platform will be the first mobile platform to take advantage of Intel’s new 45nm Penryn CPUs and the CPUs will run from 2.4GHz to 2.8GHz." yet someone further down in the comments section says that you can already get 45nm laptop cpus

All she wants is something that is over 2ghz duel core which will be able to play Sims 3. Would any of the current crop be able to do this (which would be good since prices will come down) or should she wait since 45nm is obviously better battery wise.

Re: Intel Centrino 2 launches Monday

Current intel 45nm laptop cpu's like the T8100 T8300 etc, use 35w as opposed to 25w on the new 45 nm cpus. The usual increase in cache and clock speeds too I imagine.

Intels info on the T8100 for example:

    http://ark.intel.com/cpu.aspx?groupID=33916

Heres a link with general info on intel cpus:

Re: Intel Centrino 2 launches Monday

In answer to your question I would think any 2GHz+ duel core laptop shoul dhave no problem at all running the Sims certainly the move to 45nm will not be of any great benefit in this area.

yea i hope so. Puma might make a significant impact in the mid range and value segments of the laptop market. The faster AMD move to 45nm the better!

Re: Intel Centrino 2 launches Monday

Yeah it's deffinatly going to be producing some cheap laptops.

This is the first offering from HP
    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4486

Great performance accept of course the battery life, which isn't terrible but I would have hoped for better. I'd like to see what it does for the 12" - 13.3" screen laptops

Wow thats very good review there, very encouraging too! Just hope that kind of price doesn't go up too much when/if it moves across to the UK, keeping competition with Centrino and Centrino 2 in mind.

I like the fact they are using 64 bit Vista too, about time in my humble opinion! If they had put in a 7200 rpm hd, maybe a 9-cell battery and been a UK site I would have bought it straight away! Maybe in couple of months that will be the case!

The new sony's look so nice. Having to tell myself how much I hate my current vaio for being a pig to fix or upgrade..

13.1" 16:9 screen. 1600 x 900 resolution. All the usually goodies you might expect, high end C2D, 9300GS (switchable to integrated).

I have an xps M1330 but .. that is tempting

Is it just out in USA then, or is it over here too? If not, any ideas when it comes out over here?

Well the vaio's are up on the UK site

Few other manafacurers are listing them as options now. I doubt dell will pull their finger out for a while though.
