asus P5B Motherboard northbridge temps

Hi
as you can see below on the link the northbridge temp is at 60oc, i think its labled as core,
when i touch the heatsink its very hot, is this normal.
the MB is an asus psb, it has been overclocked from my intel e6600 to 2.88 ghz

I don't own one of the mobo's, but 60'C seems a bit hot!! However all the rest of the temps seem OK, have you tried any other temperature monitoring programs.
The heatsink should be hot to touch, as it is extracting all the heat away from northbridge, and if it were cold, while your core was at 60'C there would be some serious problem, with it not extracting heat efficently

This temp, although a bit on the warm side, probally wont do any damage to the components, think about the new HD48xx series GPU's running at 80'C under load, if you want to lower temps, you could point one of your case fans towards it, causing it to be activly cooled opposed to passivle, but all should be well

Are you sure that's your Northbridge temperature? Please use something like PC Wizard 2008 which would tell you the exact temperatures for whichever part. If it is that high then you'd need to look into 3 things:

1. Replacing the northbridge with an aftermarket cooler
2. Reseating the northbridge and applying some better tIM
3. Redo your case cooling and tidy up inside your case

hi guys, sorry my mistake! the "core" listed at 60oc was infact the graphics card temp! lol.

However still, i have just checked using my fingers, both the northbridge and southbridge heatsinks are hot, i had to remove my fingers after about 10 seconds.

are there any temp sensors for checking those temps?

There probably isn't for the Southbridge, but all motherboards should have a temperature sensor in the Northbridge or around it for your to read a temperature. use the PC Wizard 2008 program I mentioned in my last post and get the motherboard temperature.

PS. 60c for the graphics card is probably normal, what graphics card do you have?

the nb/sb on overclocked asus boards tend to run hot, i was heading for 60 on my nb and mid 50's on the sb along with some instability from it, i ended up watercooling the lot and the nb still idles around 45 with the sb around 40

If you can hold your fingers there for 10 seconds I would imagine them running at normal temps and you should have nothing to worry about.

firstly i've got an 8600gts whcih runs at around the 60-70 mark anyway,
however i just tried installing the pc wizard, and couldnt find any temps relating to the NB.

maybe this suggests there isn't a temp monitor?

are there any other programs that do it?

You could try the BIOS. Go into the BIOS and enter the health monitoring area and it should give you a reading on the CPU and motherboard.

will try that, but do all motherbaords have temp sensors for the NB?
this board is pretty old now, (2 years)

MCP is south SPP is north if your board has them
